In this article, you’re going to learn how to make poppy seed tea. However, I don’t ever recommend making or drinking poppy seed tea. Why am I writing this article then?
For Harm Reduction.
Many people that have chronic pain and use opioids have had their meds cut in half or more by doctors due to recent new CDC opioid prescribing guidelines and as a result have turned to kratom for pain relief.
However, the FDA and DEA are both trying to ban kratom, and it may just be a matter of time before it becomes illegal.
Thus, kratom users and opiate addicts will no longer have this plant available to help them with their needs. And since poppy seeds are legal, I predict that many people will begin to browse the internet to learn how to make poppy seed tea.
Many individuals are already doing this, but if kratom becomes illegal, I believe poppy seed tea will become very popular, and this method of natural opiate consumption can be deadly due to the user not knowing exactly how powerful each batch of poppy seeds are.
I want to restate that I strongly recommend you never mess around with poppy seed tea because the risks far outweigh the benefits.
But I respect each individuals ability to do their own research and make their own choices, and I would rather you at least know the safest way to make the tea and the dangers associated with it, so here is how to make poppy seed tea along with the possible risks.
How To Make Poppy Seed Tea – Why I Don’t Recommend It
I’m an ex-opiate addict and current “Investigative Blogger.” What I mean by that is I like to try things like kratom, nootropics, supplements, and other things out on myself before I write an article on the topic.
This makes it more fun for me because not only do I provide high-quality information about the article topic, but I also get to write about my personal experience with it, which makes blogging a lot more fun and helps my blog stand apart from the masses.
However, now the time has come for me to write about poppy seed tea, and after doing a lot of research on it, there is no way I will make poppy seed tea and drink it so I can share about my experience in this article.
Why?
It’s way too dangerous and I don’t take these types of health risks.
I only put things in my body that I know will be safe. Drinking poppy seed tea is a gamble.
Here are a couple of moderate risks of drinking poppy seed tea:
- The poppy seed high can be habit-forming and highly addictive.
- You can develop a physiological dependence which means you will experience opiate withdrawal symptoms if you stop using poppy seeds abruptly.
I could honestly care less about these risks of using poppy seed tea. I’ve taken plenty of things with these risks during my three and a half years of blogging, including kratom and tianeptine sulfate, and I’ve never got addicted to anything.
But here are the main reasons why I will never make poppy seed tea or drink it:
- Unhealthy – When you use the massive amounts of poppy seeds it takes to get a poppy seed high, you are at high risk of ingesting pesticides, heavy metals, and a host of other chemicals that are way below harmful levels when consumed as directed, but potentially very harmful in high doses.
- Deadly – You can never be sure how many opiates are in a batch of poppy seeds which is dangerous because you can take too much and overdose, and many people have died from drinking poppy seed tea.
Let me go ahead and restate that final reason I won’t make poppy seed tea and try it out on myself and why I don’t recommend anyone else do it either:
“You can never be sure how many opiates are in a batch of poppy seeds which is dangerous because you can take too much and overdose, and many people have died from drinking poppy seed tea.”
I don’t know about you, but I tend to like knowing the exact dosage of opiates or opioids – either synthetic or natural – that I’m ingesting.
If you make poppy seed tea and can’t be sure how much morphine and codeine (opiates in the poppy seed tea) you’re ingesting, then to me that seems like gambling, only instead of losing money, you could lose your LIFE.
No thank you.
Not for me.
But maybe you’re a scientist or maybe you have ways of testing the number of opiates in the poppy seed tea that you make. Maybe you are highly intelligent and responsible and will start with a very small amount of poppy seed tea to make sure you can’t overdose.
In any case, here is how to make poppy seed tea, and I urge you to read more online than just this article here. Because this is serious business.
How To Make Poppy Seed Tea – Poppy Seed Tea Recipe
I found this method of how to make poppy seed tea on a forum after reading several poppy seed tea recipes online. This method of how to make poppy seed tea is also the same method that two of my past clients have used, so I know it works.
Here is how to make poppy seed tea according to the forum recipe. I have cleaned up the spelling and grammar and added pics, but other than that it’s the same poppy seed tea recipe.
1. Purchase Poppy Seeds
McCormick, Spice Islands, and any other MAJOR spice brand is bunk. Don’t waste $5 buying 70 grams of washed poppy seeds. Look for all natural, all organic branded poppy seeds.
The less handling the better.
If the seeds are in a glass jar, look for lots of cloudy residue building up on the glass – this is a good sign. Also look at the poppy seeds themselves.
Do they look very uniform in color and clean? Not a good sign (white poppy seeds need not apply here). Also, if there is debris in with the seeds this is also a good sign – the less processing the better.
Blue Bird Unwashed Poppy Seeds derived from the poppy flower are a popular brand for making poppy seed tea.
2. Find Your Dosage
I would say a good place to start the first time is to go with 80 grams of seed per 100 lbs of weight for a new opiate user. Advanced users should go with 150 grams of seed per 100 lbs body weight. And people with real opiate addictions could use more.
3. Wash the Poppy Seeds
I like room temperature water, as it is not so cold as to make the opium latex harden, and not so hot that it breaks down the latex. As long as your water isn’t on one extreme of the temperature spectrum, you are good.
Put all your seeds in a sealable container such as an empty plastic gallon of water or milk, and fill with water till there is about 20-30% more water than saturated poppy seeds (when the water/seed mixture settles, the water layer above the seeds is what you are looking at to be 20-30% of the volume of the poppy seed solution below it).
Seal your container and shake vigorously for 2-3 minutes. Imagine having a grand mal seizure with the poppy seed container in your hands. Shake it HARD and FAST!
4. Strain the Tea
I use a mesh strainer, but you can also use the screw cap on a plastic bottle in a pinch. Just have your poppy mixture in the bottle, slightly unscrew the cap (HOLD ON TO THE CAP – you don’t want all the poppy seeds to end up in your strained solution because your cap fell off..) and squeeze the bottle, hold this over a glass or collection pan of course.
5. Acidify the Mixture
Add lemon or lime juice and let the solution set (about a tablespoon of juice per 2floz of drink). Give it about 5-10 minutes to let reactions take place. This makes the drink more potent.
6. Drink the Poppy Seed Tea
Once you’ve made the poppy seed tea, it’s time to drink it. The poppy seed tea tastes very bad. So most people chug it all down rather than take their time sipping on it.
Important Information on Consuming Poppy Seed Tea
I found some very good info on reddit.com that I’m going to reprint here because it’s really good for you to be aware of this.
Here is a direct quote from Reddit from an expert on poppy seed tea:
“Poppy tea consumption can be lethal. It has already killed people. Consuming poppy tea is essentially a crude method to ingest morphine, codeine, thebaine, oripavine, papaverine, noscapine, and another ~45 additional alkaloids present on the surface of seeds contaminated with poppy latex during harvesting.
Depending on your personal metabolism, it can take up to 8 hours before full effects are noticeable, and can last for well over 24 hours. The quantity and ratio of alkaloids remain largely unquantified, with 6000-fold differences documented from the same plant material between different batches.
The potential for a 6000-fold difference makes consuming poppy tea inherently dangerous; even experienced users may get an unexpectedly strong batch, overdose and die.
It has happened before. It may happen to you.
- ALWAYS test each new bag of seeds with a tiny dose. 10 grams is a good place to start. Wait 8 hours for full effect. Never re-dose within a 24 hour period. The half-life is extraordinary long.
- NEVER combine poppy tea with any other drugs, especially CNS depressants (downers) such as alcohol, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, antihistamines, or other opioids. Many of the alkaloids in poppy tea have sedative and anticonvulsant effects. When combined with other drugs, the effects of both are multiplied (rather than added). The results are often deadly.
Most of the alkaloids have only limited information on animal toxicity, and none of the alkaloids have any information on human toxicity. We have absolutely no idea how poppy tea affects your health, short, or long term.
Do NOT assume your tolerance for any single one alkaloid has any effect on your tolerance for them all.
Meaning, IT IS POSSIBLE TO OVERDOSE WITHOUT GETTING HIGH.”
How To Make Poppy Seed Tea – Final Thoughts
There are thousands of people each month Googling information on how to make poppy seed tea. Now my article will be available in the search results and I hope it serves as a good warning of the possible negative consequences of drinking poppy seed tea.
I know people are going to make and drink poppy seed tea anyway, but at least now I know I’ve provided a free resource that contains the big risks, as well as a method of making the tea and testing it in small amounts that will be safer than a lot of the articles online with poppy seed tea recipes but not much if any info on the possible dangers.
If you have any comments or questions on how to make poppy seed tea and the risks associated with drinking it, please post them in the comment box below. Be safe, and stay healthy. I care about your well-being.

For me it’s not the High. I need pain relief. My bf is a recovering addict on Suboxone but our situations are different. I can go without while he gets the withdrawal affects. My issue is the pain. Doctors scared to prescribe I have been without opiates for some time but I need the pain relief. I can’t take it anymore. I work from home now because of my disability. Yes Its better and easier but I need the pain relief as it does affect my job and life. Why is it better for a person to lay around and become depressed instead of living? It’s not right for doctors and government to allow depression to be the norm for chronic pain sufferers. They will never take control of the drugs. And controlling doctors is only hurting those in pain. Opiates cross the borders every day. Someone is looking the other way. That’s where the control needs to be.

Hiya. Not in pain, just want to catch a buzz. Thanks!

Anyone have their own way of making PST?
Michael Whisman
I am a 100% Disabled Veteran and have been in chronic pain for 43 years. The VA has reduced my pain meds and I have been in agony since February.
All Veterans are suckers!! All wars are economic! Keep your sons home.
I am not an addict! I hope that all of the people who are inflicting this unnecessary pain on us veterans all die of a horrible painful disease along with their families!!
I sleep about 3 hours a day and that is form exhaustion. I hate you people and I hate all do-gooders.
I want to die.
Freeman McLeavealone
Michael, thank you for your service. My pain management doctor first reduced my meds and then started testing me for diversion, which was not a problem. Nothing to hide, right? The doctor decided to add a full drug panel without my knowledge. When the opiates from PST came up she confronted me. I told her I didn’t authorize about a grand in tests. Thanked her for helping me over the years and walked away. She was shocked I would just walk away, and even more shocked I thanked her. Michael, people in our lives think they are behaving righteously. But they do horrible, hurtful, even evil things because they don’t feel your pain or my pain. The smallest chance of you being pain free is worth it. People need to be able to learn and decide for themselves or we are not a free society. Michael, there are 3 ways I know: 1. Look up the modified thomas recipe to slow WD. 2. Look for pods for baseline relief. Only use seeds if you have to. Use a VPN to get unfiltered results 3. Dark web for breakthrough pain. Expensive, but a few strong pills help on those days where you hurt real bad and can’t work. Use those 3 and you can feel again and avoid the needle. Good luck, brother.

God bless you and thank you for serving our country. Protecting our freedoms. The government should have absolutely no say so in our health care. And I agree with your comment. I hope someone has helped you with your pain. I read they plan to change the rules back some because too many ppl are suffering, turning to the streets and dying because of that etc..
The dirty greedy pos people will indeed burn in Hell thankfully.
Take care.

I just bought some seeds from Blue Bird, I have been on 15 mg Oxy’s, 120 tabs for years and always run out, and now the pharmacies are having problems filling my scripts. I don’t know where else to turn. I just want to make sure I am trying this the safest way, start off really low, (quarter cup of seeds), and see how that works for 24 hours? I think it’s worth trying, do you?
Ian M.
I just found this page. I will start by saying that I’m truly grateful for smart people trying to pass the knowledge along when it comes to things like making poppy teas or extractions. My situation isnt common or I suppose uncommon. I’m37yo male 6’4 est. 265-268lbs weight. I suffer from multiple spinal surgeries. Or in all actuality multiple failed spinal surgeries. Fused from hips with the big pedical screws all the way up to my t6 vertebrae with a support/stability cage in place. Just had my 4th 16 hour revision in July. On top of that I suffer from vasovagal syncope and took a nasty fall 3 weeks ago and broke every bone in my right ankle. Dr says they need to do a revision from it. I also suffer from ehlers danlos.most days I don’t feel human. I feel like a effing t6.. More inhuman or subhuman than human. Something is wrong with my bone structure and I’ve never healed from my spinal fusions. Unfortunately I have had cyp450 tests done and am a rapid metabolizer of oral medication it doesn’t matter what brand drug or formulary they give me it just doesn’t work. I’m desperate. Short of main lining heroin which I’ve never done and refuse to use anything intravenously nothing works.I am a registered medical mj patient. It helps with the psychological distress but not the actual debilitating pain. I myself am in Cincinnati Ohio. The medical system here like everywhere(I’m sure) is a joke. I had my first surgery at 13-14, just turned 37yo. Medical system says that kids don’t have pain. These mf people let me walk around for a year with 4 completely shattered disc’s in my lumbar before I had my first surgery which was botched. Could’ve ended up in a court room sued them and owned the hospital. But I was a kid and I wasn’t about that life. I now on average can run through a “normal government issued prescription” of 120 10s in like 4 days. I don’t recommend being unsafe with drugs. Like many here I’ve had to resort to alternative routes of administration. I. E. Snorting, or breaking down some roxies in a bowl of weed or however. No I don’t do intravenous. I hate needles never have never will. If that’s your thing I know the struggle. I dont condemn you. But for me.. I feel like in reality we as patients.. True patients mind you.. Have very limited options sources and choices. It’s maddening. For one I have no problem telling the Dea fbi or congress or anyone how I feel about it. I have no quality of life. My quality of life is being tethered to a bed and hoping I can hobble to the bathroom on time and not piss on myself. Can’t cook. Can’t stand on my feet. Stairs are hell. When I fall it’s bad cause I’m so tall. I am going to risk it and make the teas. Maybe take it a step further and synthesize my own heroin or morphine /codeines. I don’t advocate for buying any drugs off the street. No I’m not knocking the dealers that sell. But you guys don’t know for sure what you have every time, plus yall are shady, mostly. And yall are blatantly passing off the harm from the cartels. If you are going to do any drugs be safe, MAKE YOUR OWN supply. Don’t sell it, keep it for your own use. Money is worth nothing.I get with risk comes reward but if anyone is going to take me out. It’ll be me. Right now I’ll risk it all just to have one day pain free. Sorry for the rant but it’s just my worthless 2cents.
Matt Finch
Thanks for posting such a detailed, thoughtful, and helpful comment. I appreciate your input.
Rob
Not worthless 2 cents at all, brother. I am in a similar boat – mine is Ankylosing Spondylitis, total fusion of spine, plus a microfracture between C6-C7 which is surgically stabilized with lots of titanium hardware. Was properly medicated until the ‘ahem’ “Crisis” (cough… Bullshit) hit the MSM and the doctors became pawns in their little game of Culling the Herd – the herd being those of us chronic pain patients who are a ‘drag’ on their little system. I truly believe the Medical Industrial Complex is actively trying to reduce our numbers by causing us to choose suicide rather than live with pain that was once properly managed, but now is worse than e’er it was.
It’s working, too – the number of chronic pain patients that have thus far committed the big S is already staggering, and it is a closely guarded secret within the VA, but I am certain that the number is in the tens of thousands, perhaps more. It’s impossible to find a true head count, as the MSM is forbidden from even mentioning anything that would suggest negative consequences resulting from the DEA’s and CDC’s chokehold on the prescribing of these highly effective and relatively inexpensive opiates. For the love of Pete! Morphine has been a mainstay in medicine since 1808, and has always been the number-one go-to tool in the toolbox of triage and emergent care doctors and nurses. Making it unavailable as a treatment option is blatantly moronic, as it works so well, is relatively cheap, and has almost no side effects whatsoever. It’s obvious to anyone who has done even cursory research that this is a political and conspiratorial move meant to facilitate a greater amount of control over the populace, which contains so many people in constant, chronic pain that it’s a really powerful control mechanism to control the people.
Okay, off my soapbox now, but what I say is true. If you’re reading this, you already know that. I’m allegedly going to try this tea myself, as I too have Zero quality of life when my pain is not under control. Peace, love, and puppies to you all!

I just came across this article being a bored young guy digging through his pantry, finding seeds, and hitting up Google. I was not prepared for a new respect on drug use and what people with chronic pain deal with.
Massive respect to you, far from worthless, keep up the good fight.

ENJOYED THE ARTICLE AND THE COMMENTS! This shit just got real for me, cause I am addicted to opiods. I am spending about 60 bucks a day on any kind of pain pills I can find. There are plenty of them here in the hood and my phone has plenty of numbers to call for pills. Ive been on suboxone and in rehab, but the truth is that I love these pills day and night. I cant wake up with out thinking where I am going to get my pills. I get pills for free many times from people who need my services as an computer guy. I make lots of money but these pills are keeping me broke. then came the DUI and 7 days in jail. I went into withdrawal and on the day I got out of jail, I stopped breathing. I died and when straight out of here through a door with bright lights. After I awoke a day later, I swore I would get myself clean. I am seriously looking at this solution and I need some direction on the tea. Can I buy the seeds off the web or go to a store around here? I need answers cause I am sick of pills. I am scheduled for another knee surgery and the pills don’t even help me.

Opiates help with pain in the short term, but over the long term they reduce our threshold to pain. Normal pain becomes amplified… I know this from 4 years of experience. This tea is worse than heroin, as its 45 + psycho active alkaloids. If you’re in pain like you think, and if find decent seeds you’ll become addicted inevitably as I. And spend hundreds a month easily trying to feel “normal” normal would be how you feel now. Horrible right? Imagine shaking bottle twice a day just to feel as you do now.. I promise it’s not worth it my friends.
Anon
You should really try kratom, it’s way safer and 10x cheaper. I would be considered a heavy user(30 grams a day) and I spend $68 every 5 weeks for a kilo from golden monk and even then they have sales all the time so you can get it even cheaper
Audrey Nicholas
Can u just chew them? Not looking to get super high just a bit mellow feeling…? Tia
NoDaddyNO
I’m sure you already figured this out but this has the potential to go terribly bad. Not only will it taste like eating dirt, but you will be eating dirt essentially. The tea or rinse is easiest if you take it with a mixer in shot form. Little bit at a time should help you to find a nice spot rather then rolling the dice and wondering why you’re eating something super nasty.
Voice of Reason
What a silly response. They are poppy seeds-this is a food, not dirt at all. The seeds are contained inside the poppy pod so unlikely contact dirt. Yes you can eat them whole. Mix them with lemon and yogurt, mix them with oatmeal, or use any number of poppy seed recipes online. It would be hard to eat enough to “get high” probably. But just like flax and chia seeds, poppy seeds are healthy and go great in lots of recipes.
They are not gross or dirty.
Tim
From someone who is well versed in PST I would highly advise against just eating the seeds. Poppy seeds tend to clump when they’re wet and they do not digest well. Chewing or not, the amount you need to consume makes it extremely likely that you will end up with intestinal blockage. I learned this the hard way. I didn’t have anything to strain my dose of seeds so I just drank them down in a big glass of water. Several hours later I had the worst stomach pain of my life, accompanied by extremely painful vomiting. When I figured out what had happened I vigorously massaged my duodenum. Thank the Lord it helped and everything moved along afterwards. But it isn’t worth the risk of rupturing something in your GI track or having to have surgery to correct a blockage. Sure, they don’t taste great but there are things far worse than this childish “don’t do it, it tastes bad.”
Carole
Just began making poppy seed tea as my new doctor stopped my dihydrocodeine prescription. The worst of the withdrawal was the ‘restless legs’ all night. I have osteoarthritis and bone marrow cancer. There is a definite ‘kick’ I can feel after drinking the tea. I prefer my drugs measured and it frightens me. But I’m careful I hope. Couple of teaspoonfuls at a time. Wouldn’t it be better to give me pain meds?
Dozwold
I’m so sorry for you. I just found this article as Google’d for pain relieving teas and this popped up. Had no idea that poppies actually contained opioids let alone the scary fact that heroin is made form them. I eat poppy bagels nearly daily… please be careful. Anything with a 6000% tolerance in strength is just mad. Suffering from pains that can be debilitating I understand the need for these types of meds now. Even with a previous alcohol addiction, I beleive that if an addiction causes no harm to others, it’s ok when the benefits outweigh the problems. Alcohol the problems never can outweigh the benefits, but with pain meds, they can as it won’t make you violent towards others or act like an idiot. Especially as you have cancer, the dr that stopped your prescription seems awful (7 less you were abusing the meds to a stupid degree for your health). I think Anything that can decrease your pain or increase your comfort should be given in a situation where pain is debilitating you have no good life anyway… It’s your right. I would change doctor immediately and find one that’s empathetic. It should not be hard. Ask around… Just please be careful and don’t drink these teas. It’s when you don’t know what you are taking that is the worse of addictions,.. at least knowing dosages, allows you to taper down safely and slowly when the time is right f9r you. you simply won’t be able to do this safely with unknown dosages in teas…

Only it is not easy to find a sympathetic Dr anymore & if you try to search for one, you are now labeled an addict. It totally sux that people in pain have yo risk our lives looking for pain relief but relief isnt coming from a pharmacist anymore. Desperate times ya know? PROP & the DEA are winning.
ROB HALE
Yours is a very thoughtful and empathetic response, but I just wanted to let you know – we cannot ‘just find another doctor’ because no doctors will take new pain patients anymore. The number of true ‘pain management’ doctors is becoming less and less since the powers that be made opiate prescribing so difficult. Doctors are truly terrified to prescribe ANY opiates today, as they are risking their licenses to practice with every ‘script written. The DEA now raids more doctors offices then they do criminal cadres. It happened to my pain management clinic – it was insane!
Common sense
Lol @DOZWOLD You are a idiot!! You are what is wrong with America!! Stupid and clearly missing the point!!! People who drink this START SMALL!! You can always take more but you CAN’T take less.
Samuel Taylor
I have been addicted to poppy seed tea for over 2 years now. I started with about half a kilo of seeds which I added to a jar filled with warm water and a tsp of acidic acid (same as lemon juice). Shake for a few minutes then strain through a sieve. Drink. The first time I did that without any habit behind me, it much was a massive hit and lasted all day and all night. It was almost too much really as I was pretty sedated and nearly spewed several times, and was on the nod so to speak throughout much of the day. So WARNING!!!! if you’re going to do this.. start with no more than 200gm.
Over time my dose increased from half kg of seeds to 1 kg seeds, and now I need 2 kg seeds each day. I add a tsp of acidic acid for every kilo of seeds.
The better you shake it, the stronger the brew. Strain it no longer than 5 minutes after the water is in it. For anybody who doesn’t already have a habit, you should always start with less and experiment by adding small increments. Start with 200gm and work your way up your preferred amount. Be careful, as each bag of seeds you buy will have a slightly different strength. I always stick to the same brand and supplier when buying it. The difference in strength from each bag I buy is very minimal now that I have a regular supplier with the same brand. But when you are starting out and experimenting, the different brands and stores will also have different strengths, so when I say be careful I mean it. and like Matt says, you could DIE!!! if you drink too much…. so be careful and start low dose.
These days I buy it by the 15kg sack which lasts just over a week. Costs me about $100/week. My habit is quite bad, I would estimate the strength of my seeds and the amount I take each day (2kg) would be equivalent to approx 60ml of methadone, or a gram of heroin.
BUT now I am sick of it. It is costing me too much money, I can’t even feel any high, it just keeps me from being dope sick, and my health is beginning to suffer (skin break outs, low energy, etc).
So I want to stop… I am going to try Matt’s mega dose vitamin C method or if my doc will prescribe it, the Gabapentin. I will also use calm support and some xanax. Might even have some st johns wort.
DON”T UNDERESTIMATE POPPY SEED ADDICTION! My habit is really bad and coming off this shit is going to be HELL! I’ve been thru opiate withdrawals in the past, from methadone, morphine, and codeine… and I am telling you the poppy seeds are just as hard. I did a cold turkey from poppy seeds once before. That time I had a 1kg/day habit. I did cold turkey with no meds or herbs. The only thing I had was xanax which had about 30 pills of during the first 3 days. I remember the 4th and 5thn days of that was almost unbearable without anything whatsoever to help. It took about 10 days all up but I did it. But never again, not without some help.. so I am really hoping Matt’s methods are good.
I will post my withdrawal process after I do it and let you know how it went. I am planning on going to a hotel for a week for this…. so that I am in a clean room with all the nice extras, and away from my normal environment. I think that will help… and I the cost is justified I think. I hope I can get the Gabapentin, but if it’s the Vitamin C method then so be it…
Look out for my future post.
See you all on the other side!
Stuart
Those are massive quantities of seeds to use for tea!
For most people looking for skeletal relief, etc. from 100 to 200 grams of a mid-level seed should be fine. Always test a new batch but more likely they will be weaker than you think. This wasn’t true previously (I had some bags where even 50 grams would be a nice dose).
In terms of addiction, a “habit” of these small amounts isn’t more than having a couple tylenol #3’s per day – considered a weak opiate.
You are 100% correct that if you have to use KG’s of this stuff every day…..you have went too far. Plus, you may get a strong batch accidentally and that WILL kill you in that quantity
Jay
Yea, I sympathize with all people suffering from pain and depression. I crushed my leg in a mc accident, then broke 3 dics and one a burst fracture. Both rotator cuff damage and my pelvis is out of wack because of a shorten leg. With all this happening, the stupid CDC director tells the doctors to lower the amount of pain pills they’re issuing because teen agers all over this country are ODing from OCs. I did some research on this CDC director, come to find out he is a hand pick of Trump, and this director has a criminal past with fraud. In my opinion, Trump pick this guy because Trump knew he could string his personal hand picked by diverting funds to himself (Trump). Yea that’s where Trump will receive some money to build the wall along the Mexican border.
Homer
Naw, as much as I loathe Trump, the faux opioid crisis started before he was around. It’s a combination DEA/political problem/Suboxone treatment center (ugh, PROP & Kolodny deserve painful long-term excruciating untreated pain, plus the DEA was just as bad under Obama).

Dude…please stop with the TDS nonsense. What you just said is delusional and quite ridiculous. This is getting so out of hand, I can’t go anywhere online withouy running into some imbecilic fool running his uninformed and immature mouth regarding the current president.
You are washed man. Get off the seeds, lesrn to respect the plant and lesrn to respect yourself from now on; oh….and quit listening to the fad opinions surrounding Trump, get off that bandwagon because there is nothing respectable or “cool” about it. Please…for your own sake….start thinking for yourself, regardless of how others people might see you because of it.
Kyle Nelson
Hey Matt…..I want your honest answer. Is there anything out there that works. After twenty years of the twelve steps, I have finally decided to stop the insanity and find something that is based on science and actually has positive statistics. Have you heard of the St. Clair method?
Eric
Here is an alternative point of view for the sake of equity and proper balanced perspective:
While it is always wise to leave a disclaimer it is not true that drinking poppy seed tea (PST) can kill if it is done properly. As any doctor will tell you it is almost always the case that drugs deaths occur due to COMBINING drugs rather than using one by itself – unless the person is a new user who was stupid enough to try something they’d never tried before. People who use cocaine and heroin the same evening, or alcohol and Xanax the same evening will face fatal or potentially fatal side effects.
In my experience it is mostly people with prior experience with opiates who are using PST. Someone like myself who has been on prescription morphine for years has a very high tolerance, and the morphine found on even the best poppy seeds will rarely exceed 30mg per half cup of seeds. Death from morphine comes almost exclusively through respiratory depression because opiates, especially in high doses, suppress the body’s natural urge to breathe. These deaths usually occur during sleep and are more common with people who experience some form of sleep apnea (if you snore when you’re asleep you have sleep apnea). Responsible users with a high tolerance and experience in use will almost never experience any adverse side effects at all. For them the greater risk is from seed contaminants like heavy metals, molds, and pesticides. These can be counteracted through the use of filters and chelation supplements.
I take PST because the new regulations regarding morphine are unduly strict and are having a very negative effect on people like me who experience severe chronic pain. I’ve had two back surgeries, still have several herniated disks, along with Multpile Sclerosis. Federal regulations now restrict how much morphine a person can be prescribed per day – usually less than 80mg. From years of trial and error pain doctors have determined that the doses which work for me are well over 160mg per day. This means that I run out of my medication as much as two weeks early. This is where PST saves me. For a responsible, careful, thoughtful person with previous opiate experience and a high tolerance a 30mg dose of morphine from 1/2 cup of seeds will do no significant or long-term damage.

Thanks for this in-depth information on how you use poppy seed tea. You’ve got your method down and it’s great you have this legal resource to use. It has really intrigued me for many years. I’m still too afraid to ever try it, but I know a lot of people drink it daily with no consequence other than dependence.

Anybody who has a history of addiction should certainly stay away from PST because poppy seeds most definitely contain measurable doses of opiates. Based on the research I’ve done there is the equivalent of approximately 30mg of morphine and 5mg of codeine for every 10 ounces of PST when using high quality seeds sold by a reputable vendor. You will see some people on here and other places say that they mix a kilo of seeds (2 and a 1/2 pounds) with water to make their PST. Those are the people who are endangering their lives because they are likely consuming between 100 to 160mg equivalent in morphine in a single dose, which is the strength used for cancer patients. I use only 1 cup of seeds to make three ten ounce bottles which I consume throughout the day, much like when taking a prescribed pill at a certain time. Depending upon the strength of the seeds this means that I’m consuming approximately 30mg of morphine per bottle. Were I to use two and a half pounds of seeds I would overdose despite having built up a tolerance. I realize that not everyone is able to use seeds responsibly because addiction is a lack of control, but they are a godsend for people like myself who have been caught up in the “opioid crisis” propaganda currently permeating the country. I cannot get adequate pain control even from a legally sanctioned pain clinic due to unnecessarily restrictive federal regulations. As a result I must turn to PST to get through my day. I don’t commit crimes or steal money to feed a habit, and I lead a productive life to the best of my ability. It is ironic, I think, that many people who criticize daily use of opiates are themselves addicted to nicotine and/or caffeine to get through their day. Both chemicals release endorphins during use and cause severe withdrawal if stopped. They do fine using them, and there are plenty of people who do fine using opiates for pain control and depression. Most deaths from opiates are, as I mentioned, due to combining it with other drugs, or taking too high of a dose without any prior experience with opiates. With proper education those deaths can be halted, and people who live with pain can still get the relief they require to live productive lives. PST can do that for the right person.

I feel the same way you do Eric. I am a 54 year old woman who has severe arthritis, bone spurs and degenerative disc disease. My regular doctor referred me to a “pain clinic” in 2010. I didn’t know about opioids or their addictive properties. The doctor at the pain clinic prescribed me 30 mg of oxycodone a day….8 years later and I’m still taking the meds. I’m finding myself running out now a week early before my monthly prescription is available. The addiction takes over and makes you need more and more. These doctors and pharmaceutical companies conspired to make money off our insurance and have left behind people who need these meds now. I work everyday and am a productive member of society, but what used to be a “drug addict” is no longer someone who is homeless and steals. These doctors and pharmaceutical companies need to be held accountable for what they’ve done to innocent people!

Can I ask which seeds you are using? Have you ever used Blue Bird? I just started using poppy tea, and only a quarter-cup of seeds gets me doped up really good. Even just an eighth of a cup does it, and gets the room spinning. I use a quarter-cup of seeds to get a half-pint of tea. A half-cup gets me a pint. I drank almost a full pint the other day and thought I was ODing. And the doses were even split up. I drank a half-pint in the afternoon, and then the rest about 6-7 hours later. I was having serious trouble breathing, heart palpitations, muscle/body aches, and mild trouble swallowing. It lasted all night. I eventually tried to sleep because I couldn’t stay awake, and any time I started to dose off I would immediately involuntarily jump up in a fright due to my difficulty breathing. I find it impossible to believe that was only 30 mg of morphine. I have plenty of experience with drugs, including opiates. The thought of going through a cup of seeds a day seems unbelievable to me. Nevermind a kilo. How can you be so sure of the dose? I’m pretty sure a cup of these seeds would kill me.

I am so disappointed that the DEA etc is trying to ban Kratom. The original reason it was banned in Malaysia and Thailand was because it was taking to many people OFF of Heroin etc . Their Government was losing too much money. Nobody has died off of Kratom and I know many many people that have benefited from it. I have been to 6 rehabs/detoxes and been an Opiate/Heroin user for 30 years . I never wanted to quit. BUT … I found Kratom and was able to get off of everything with no ill effects. No withdrawal , no nothing. I was a heavy user and up to 180 mg of Morphine a day…. Now it is just Kratom. So I guess our Government is losing too much money and wants people on addictive Opiates etc … SO … they will ban what they see as a threat. They ignore the health benefits and the HUNDREDS of positive scientific reports and many good stories and just want to outlaw it. No choice for hard addicts but go back after Kratom is banned. I know this is about the Tea, but I apologize going off on a tangent

I too take Kratom. No more than 4-5 grams a day. But it’s not killing the severe pain. I use mostly reds of a non/ sedating strain, Bali, Borneo , Vietnam or Ma Daeng. Too much just makes me sleepy when all I want is pain relief with NO high. I’m considering PST in tiny doses because I can’t take the pain. My life is destroyed from Fibromyalgia, CFS and osteoarthritis. I was on Oxy for a bit but took myself off because it stopped working. I am allergic to codeine. Guessing then I should not use a few teaspoons or sips of PST? No addiction or highs ever.
Jeez
There’s codeine in PST. As OP stated, it’s not just morphine. Highly advised you reconsider if you’re allergic.

Very good read. I had never heard of this until a local news cast. Is there no way to test potency WITHOUT drinking it?

Not unless you have gas/ liquid chromatography or some other of laboratory testing equipment at your disposal.
