I review over 20 of the most powerful withdrawal remedies that will give you all the information you could ever need.
Home Remedies for Opiate Withdrawal – OTC Medications
1. Imodium AD – One of the side effects of opiates is constipation. After using them consistently for a period of time you can develop a physiological dependence. A sudden cessation of opiate use will result in diarrhea. This is because your body is used to a steady supply of constipating narcotics.
The most effective way to remedy this is by taking Imodium AD. Imodium acts as a mu-opiod agonist on the myenteric plexus in the large intestine. This means that it mimics the effects opiates have on your stomach.
It stops intestinal spasms and diarrhea extremely well.
Though it acts like an opiate it doesn’t get you high or mess up your detox. Most people who have studied Imodium believe this is because it doesn’t cross the blood-brain barrier. This is false. It does cross the barrier, but it immediately gets pumped back into non-central nervous system circulation. If you want to save a ton of money get Equate – Anti-Diarrheal, 72 Caplets (Compare to Imodium A-D).
It’s generic Imodium AD, which is just 2 mg caplets of loperamide HCL. The best part is….it’s only a little over $3.
2. NSAIDS – Opiates are strong painkillers. After taking them for a long time then stopping, your body goes through some serious pain. One way to minimize the pain is by taking NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
They are mild pain relievers and won’t help as much as you’d like, but they will help nonetheless. If you want to save some money get the generic form, Ibuprofen 200mg Coated Tablets 100 Count (Generic Advil®). The best part is….it’s only a little over $2.
3. Topical Analgesics – You’re going to need all the help you can get when it comes to pain relief. I recommend getting Self-Heal Balm with DMSO to rub on sore muscles during opiate withdrawal. DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide) is a naturally occuring by-product from paper processing.
It’s very effective at reducing pain and inflammation. This is one of my favorite home remedies for opiate withdrawal because it really soothes and relaxes sore muscles, especially problem areas like the calves.
It can help relieve pain before bed so it’s easier to fall asleep. The best part is….it’s less than $17.
Natural Home Remedies for Opiate Withdrawal
4. Epsom Salt Baths – I LOVE epsom salt baths for opiate withdrawal. Epsom salt is a naturally occurring pure mineral compound consisting of magnesium and sulfate. Both of these compounds are easily absorbed through the skin, so taking baths is a great way to get fast benefits.
Epsom salt baths help to:
- Relax the nervous system.
- Flush toxins from the body.
- Sooth back pain and aching limbs.
- Improve the absorption of nutrients.
- Produce serotonin – The chemical in the brain that helps you feel emotionally relaxed.
- Produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP) – Promotes energy production.
This is one of the most powerful home remedies for opiate withdrawal. To add this to your home remedies for opiate withdrawal shopping list, get something like Morton Epsom Salt, Plain U.S.P., 4 Pound. The best part is….it’s only around $11.
5. Passion Flower – One of the worst opiate withdrawal symptoms is anxiety. Passion flower is an herb that can help minimize anxiety. It does this by helping your brain produce a neurotransmitter called gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA). GABA is your brains natural Valium.
Actually, a better way to describe it would be to say Valium is unnatural GABA!
Passion flower is used for anxiety, gastrointestinal distress due to anxiety, insomnia, and narcotic drug withdrawal. These benefits make it one of the top home remedies for opiate withdrawal. To add this to your home remedies for opiate withdrawal shopping list, get something like Herb Pharm Passionflower 1 Ounces.
The best part is….it’s only about $10.
6. L-Tyrosine – This is one of the top home remedies for opiate withdrawal. L-Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid that is found primarily in high-protein foods. It’s converted to L-dopa in the brain.
L-dopa converts to dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter that is responsible for feelings of pleasure and mental alertness. Taking L-Tyrosine during opiate withdrawal can reduce stress and improve mood. To add this to your home remedies for opiate withdrawal shopping list, get something like Now Foods L-Tyrosine 500mg, 120-Capsules. The best part is….it’s only about $10.
7. Natural Sleep Formulas – Insomnia is one of the most dreaded opiate withdrawal symptoms. When looking for good home remedies for opiate withdrawal, natural sleep formulas can definitely help. Over-the-counter sleeping pills can also work, but I recommend natural formulas because they are usually more effective.
The only problem is that many of them are expensive. Luckily, I found one that is very inexpensive and works well. Now Foods Sleep Veg Capsules, 90 Count contains:
- Valerian – Helps you fall asleep faster and deepens sleep.
- Hops – Reduces anxiety, restlessnes and insomnia.
- GABA – Reduces anxiety, mentally relaxing.
- Passion Flower – Reduces anxiety, gastrointestinal upset due to anxiety, narcotic drug withdrawal.
The best part is….it’s only about $10 to add it to your home remedies for opiate withdrawal shopping list.

Home Remedies for Opiate Withdrawal Formulas
The purpose of this article was to show you 7 powerful home remedies for opiate withdrawal that you can purchase at a store like Walmart or Amazon for under $60. I have used all the above products and they helped minimize my symptoms. They will not be as beneficial as benzodiazepines and clonidine, but they are easy to obtain, legal and inexpensive. They also work pretty well when using all of them together.
There are also home remedies for opiate withdrawal formulas. They have a variety of ingredients that can help decrease withdrawal symptoms. If you have the extra money I HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting one of these products. They can be the difference between having a horrible withdrawal and a mild one.
A popular, high-quality opiate withdrawal formula I endorse is:
- Opiate Withdrawal Supplement
- If you can afford it, I also highly recommend taking this awesome supplement, because the benefits are just too good to pass up.
I hope this article helped you realize how many home remedies for opiate withdrawal there are. If you succeed in quitting and staying clean, your life can be awesome like you’ve never imagined.

I’ve been struggling with herion addiction for the past 4 years ,, I started with pain pill…. Oxys, morphin,, dilaudi.. I was on pain pills for 2 years before switching to herio,, & EVERYONE I know that does herion started with pain pill.. Like me & every other junkie I know, they started smoking heroin on foil then moved to shooting up. I’ve tried so many different things trying to get off the shit I’ve tried nearly every thing on this list & NOTHING has worked my withdrawal symptoms end up being so intense after day 2 that I usually can’t take it no more & end up giving in & getting a bag what I can’t take any more are the fucking abscesses they are so painful & leave a really ugly nasty scar on you IDK ,, maybe hopefully I’ll find something that works for me I’ve heard that doctors can put you in a medically induced coma for a few days so a person can get through the worst part of the withdrawal & I REALLY BADLY wanna try doing that if they really do it at all but I don’t know how to go about getting signed up for that

I don’t have much money and about to start my detox in a couple days I take many hydros every day what do I need to do so I won’t hurt so bad and can get sleep I have a baby to take care of and don’t have any energy. How long does it take to get out of my system? I’m getting drug tested too
karen
I’m going on 48 hours of absolutely no pain killers. I would snort anywhere from 5-10 hydrocone 10mg or percocet 10mg a day depending on my cash flow or what I can get my hands on. My boyfriend and I are both going on 48 hours of quitting. I just want to know when this is going to get easier? I can handle the wanting and desire of being high or snorting a line but when will the body aches end?

I have struggled with a codeine addiction for 5 years and couldn’t get anymore from the doctor, so decided to start buying 2-3 packs of nurofen plus and taking them 32 tablets a time.
I decided to stop. I needed help, so turned to the Internet as I kept my addiction to myself. Big mistake.
I told people that meant something to me and they support me which gives me the will power.
The first 3 days were shit. Shakes, no food, sweats, chills, diarrhoea etc.
First day I used loperamide which stopped the toilet runs.
I took aspirin to help with the aches and pains.
Day 4 rls set in and I had no sleep for 4 nights solid.
I read this websites home remedy section and picked up some l-tyrosine, valerian root, and Epsom bath salts.
They have all helped me, no bullshit.
I had 2 full nights sleep since.
I’m now on day 10. I still think about taking, but the hardest part is done with. It gets better.
The most important thing is a positive mental outlook. This won’t beat me. Never. You WILL feel better, I promise.
Sounds a bit corny, but this guy seems to know what he’s talking about, (I don’t know him by the way)
Chin up, stay strong. We can do anything if we put our minds to it.
Hope it helps

Hi Matt! I just read your articles and am Trying to stop taking Fentanyl. I was prescribed it years ago for back and neck pain and now need to come off it. The doctor gave me scripts for ondansetron for nausea, tizanidine for pain and clonidine for the withdrawals and said I should taper. My question is, I’m not sure how fast to taper and when these Medes would be most helpful. I have been on 125 mcg every 48 hrs for about 8 years. Not sure how to do this and am scared to death of the pain coming back. Would also like your opinion as far as the natural substances to aid in the process. I am now down to 100 mcg and just kind of lost. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

There is an opiate addiction cure, but it is illegal in the states; IBOGAINE ! !… The replacement of serotonin, dopamine and endorphins is a must, these can be found in foods and also supplements too. The opiates take these away and the receptors are toast… If you want to quit, tapering is thee way to go. Another way that might be hard to find is Ayahuasca. You can find churches and the like in the states, make sure that there is a ceremony and the people are honest! Around $50.00us or you can go to Peru or where ever and spend a fortune. Ayahuasca actually repairs DNA and RNA, fact. But it is a tool to get off not like ibogaine that takes it away.(.) Read up on these two. The Ayahuasca Manifesto and there are many utube videos on both. ibogainetreatment.co.uk and this one was my faverite! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khhsboVsyrw Good luck my friend, do not stop trying! You Can Do It…
