In this article, I’m going to teach you how to use DLPA for opiate withdrawal….and to be quite honest, I feel like I’m giving out “Top-Secret” information! It absolutely blows my mind that more people aren’t aware of DLPA’s incredible and diverse benefits.
When it comes to acute opiate withdrawal and post-acute withdrawal, DLPA is seriously one of the most beneficial supplements there is.
After making it through acute opiate withdrawal several times, I often ended up using opiates again within a week to three months after quitting.
Why couldn’t I stay clean???
Though I had no clue at that point in my life, I’ve since learned about the severe biochemical imbalances that opiate addiction causes or exacerbates…which ultimately lead to massive cravings and poor mental health.
Opiate Addiction Brain Chemistry 101
I believe it’s important for you to have at least a basic understanding of how brain chemistry can become deficient during opiate addiction. The following information can help you to better understand why it’s so difficult to quit opiates and stay clean long-term.
There are essentially two primary disruptions in the body from the continued use and subsequent cessation of opioid drugs:
- Endorphin deficiency
- Dopamine deficiency
Endorphins and dopamine are neurotransmitters, which are substances that transmit nerve impulses across a synapse. The brain uses neurotransmitters to tell your heart to beat, your lungs to breath, and your stomach to digest.
They also play a HUGE role in mood, concentration, sleep and weight, and can cause a number of negative consequences when they become out of balance.
Imbalances in biochemistry can result from the following:
- Stress (physical and emotional)
- Genetic predisposition
- Toxins in the environment
- Poor diet
- Drug abuse
It is estimated that 86% of Americans have suboptimal neurotransmitter levels, and in opiate abusers…I’m sure it’s 100%.
There are two types of neurotransmitters:
- Inhibitory – Calms the brain and acts as a mental relaxant
- Excitatory – Stimulates the brain
As I stated earlier, opiate addiction causes two primary deficiencies: endorphin (inhibitory) and dopamine (excitatory and inhibitory).
Endorphins
Endorphins are our natural painkillers (natural morphine). Our bodies release endorphins when we exercise. Perhaps you’ve heard of “runners high”, which describes a euphoric feeling produced by the massive production of endorphins after running long distances.
Endorphins promote joy, euphoria, and contentment…and that leads us to why opiates make you feel so good.
Different drugs mimic different neurotransmitters. Opioid drugs specifically mimic endorphins. That’s why opioids are so beneficial at relieving pain and producing euphoria. When an opioid is taken, the body produces massive amounts of endorphins in quantities our bodies weren’t designed to handle.
If you use opioids consistently over a period of time, the body starts making more opioid receptors, and that’s how tolerance is developed. Now the brain has become dependent on opioids to produce endorphins, and it stops making them naturally.
The problem arises when an opiate abuser lowers his dosage considerably or comes off opioids completely. You are now supplying your body with fewer endorphins from the drugs, but your brain doesn’t supply you with the rest. Your brain short circuits, and therein lies the problem. What results is a massive endorphin deficiency leading to increased sensitivity to physical and emotional pain, among other problems.
Dopamine
Dopamine is our main focus neurotransmitter. Dopamine is also responsible for our drive or desire to get things done…our motivation. Dopamine lifts the dark clouds of depression, is responsible for feelings of pleasure, and plays a role in the “reward system” in the brain. Prolonged use of opioids leads to continuous spikes in dopamine levels.
Over time, the brain eventually adjusts natural production of the neurotransmitter to compensate for the presence of drugs. Due to both the over-activation of dopamine during periods of opiate intoxication and long-term changes in brain chemistry, natural dopamine levels become lowered and depleted. Once your dopamine levels are depleted, it’s virtually impossible to experience pleasure without using the drug.
Things that used to provide you with pleasure no longer do so:
- Job promotion
- Your kid does well in a soccer game
- Trip to Disneyland
You no longer derive enjoyment from these activities. It now takes a huge spike in dopamine (drugs, sex, gambling etc.) to feel pleasure. This is one of the top reasons why opiate abusers relapse within a few months of quitting drugs…they have “pleasure deafness”, life basically sucks, and they are also sensitive to physical and emotional pain due to the endorphin deficiency.
Enough is enough…they feel like they can’t go on feeling so bad every day, so they use…thus, the cycle continues.
DLPA to the Rescue
Luckily, there is a simple, natural and inexpensive supplement called DLPA that can break this cycle quickly. More and more individuals are learning about the benefits of using DLPA for opiate withdrawal and post-acute withdrawal, and now it’s time for me to shine some light on this wonderful supplement.
How does DLPA for opiate withdrawal work in the body? DLPA, also known as DL-Phenylalanine, is a combination supplement consisting of D-Phenylalanine and L-Phenylalanine.
L-Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid found in protein-rich foods such as:
- Beef
- Tofu
- Pork
- Fish
- Milk
- Eggs
- Yogurt
- Poultry
L-Phenylalanine makes the following biological conversion in the brain:
L-phenylalanine → L-Tyrosine → L-DOPA → dopamine + norepinephrine + epinephrine
This L- form of the amino acid phenylalanine has the ability to radically spike dopamine levels in the brain, thus giving the opiate abuser’s depleted brain chemistry a much-needed boost.
L-Phenylalanine supplementation during acute and post-acute withdrawal can lead to the following benefits:
- Enhanced mood (pleasure)
- Increase in natural energy and motivation
- Helps the body respond to physical and psychological stress
D-Phenylalanine is made synthetically in laboratories. It slows the action of the enzymes, particularly carboxypeptidase A and enkephalinase, that destroy endorphins. DPA does this by acting like a “downfield body blocker” in football.
When the endorphins are trying to reach the traumatized area, the endorphin-degrading enzymes are on their way to eat them “Pac-Man” style.
DPA comes right up and blocks them from reaching the endorphins, thus enabling the endorphins to successfully reach the traumatized area. Supplementation with DPA can result in a significant increase in endorphin levels in the body. In one study, a man that took a single dose of DLPA experienced a 300% increase in endorphin levels, and they stayed that high for six days.
Taking DLPA, a combination of D-Phenylalanine and L-Phenylalanine can result in a rapid increase in dopamine and endorphin levels in an individual going through acute opiate withdrawal or Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS).
Using DLPA for opiate withdrawal leads to the following benefits:
- Reverses depression
- Calms anxiety
- Promotes natural energy production
- Reduces fatigue
- Reduces opiate cravings
- Natural pain relief
How to Use DLPA for Opiate Withdrawal
To use DLPA for opiate withdrawal, use the following dosing guidelines:
- Take 1,000-2,000 mg 3 times per day during acute opiate withdrawal
- Take DLPA for opiate withdrawal on an empty stomach an hour before meals.
- After 30 days you can start slowly decreasing your DLPA dosage.
- If you start to experience opiate cravings or other mental health issues raise your dosage back to normal.
- Take DLPA for as long as you need. Most people benefit from taking it for at least a few months after the acute opiate withdrawal is over.
- For people with high blood pressure and/or anxiety issues, DLPA might aggravate those issues. In these cases, you can use DPA, as it doesn’t contain the L- form of phenylalanine, which is the one that can exacerbate anxiety and hypertension.
- DLPA is a main ingredient in this powerful Opiate Withdrawal Supplement and I highly recommend using it.
- If you can afford it, I also highly recommend taking this awesome supplement, because the benefits are just too good to pass up.
DLPA for Tapering
Why wait until you’re going through opiate withdrawal to use DLPA? Did you know that DLPA acts as an “opiate potentiator”?
This means that taking DLPA along with opiates increases their strength. Since it increases their strength, you can get by using a lower dosage.
This also means that DLPA is very useful during the tapering process…and since it supplies you with the dopamine and endorphins you will be lacking while tapering, it’s very beneficial to use in this situation. Click here now to view my best home detox program.
If you have any questions on using DLPA for opiate withdrawal, please feel free to post them in the comment box below.

I don’t know if this can help someone but I want to express my complete gratitude to people like you because you took time to write about this problem that was really big for me. I found an article similar, immediately it opened my eyes, I was using prescription oxycodone for my back pain for more than 2 years after an accident but I did some research to leave that pills and I discovered <kratom capsules, it saved my life. I love the plant-based products and It works really well for me, you have to read about the kratom effects and you're going to understand me
Richard
I am going through Kratom PAWS and am specifically dealing with pretty bad Ahedonia and depression. I have been taking the reccomended dosage of DLPA for about 2 weeks now, but still suffer quite a bit. Does it take time to help people?

Can I take dlpa with sublocade? I just got my first shot of sublocade 2 weeks ago and I’m feeling severe depression and I want to take it with the sublocade since I’m using it to get off of subs

Matt,
Just found your site after getting past all the rehab sites. I was on Norco for 13 years and it started to cause stomach problems. I told my doctor I wanted off and he put me on Suboxone. After 3 weeks I was going crazy. For 3 days I had not eaten and checked myself into detox. After 5 days I was released and 24 hours later started withdrawals. After about a week I started taking some of my leftover Norco at a reduced amount to ease the symptoms. After 10 days I stopped and am on day 2 and started taking DPLA. Again I don’t feel like eating, have bad night sweats, and have hot flashes. Any recommendations on how much DPLA to take? I’ve started long walks twice a day to help boost my own endorphins. I would be grateful for any advice.
Stephen
Thank everyone who made this website. Matt and you all are unbelievably helpful, and should be extremely proud of your work. One question. Have not been able to cease poppy tea for years. I was planning to start tapering and bam. The seed company started washing their seeds overnight. So in a nutshell, forced to do an extreme taper with no choice. It’s almost unbearable. I have tried the DLPA and it does seem to augment the washed seeds so I don’t suffer. However my question is … What is the benefit of the DLPA if I use it with the weaker seeds? Is my body still adjusting to the fact there is less morphine in the seeds, or does my body think I am still at the old level? Thank you again!

Can I take a dlpa and tyrosine together ? I live in the uk ,I am trying to quit heroin . Can you recommend any other supplements unfortunately you can’t get calm support in the uk ,anybody know anything similar that you can buy over in uk many thanks (desperate for an answer to my questions please )

New to this site but really love it. Someone from Reddit brought me here and introduced me to DLPA and it has seriously been a miracle in my suboxone taper. I do need advice though on any other supplements to take as well. I;m scared of a tolerance. Do you get a tolerance with DLPA even after 1 week? Here is my train of thought: I did my suboxone drop, 1.5mg to .7mg 6 days ago. i felt amazing the first 3 days because of the dlpa. then day 4 – 5 worse. then day 6 (tonight) the worst yet. question is: am i gaining a tolerance to dlpa or is the drop / taper just coming to a head right now. my thoughts are the latter but i need help with dosing…ugh
all in all, dlpa has saved me though!! just feeling sick right now :/
Kenneth
Dear Joanne,
I’m near to certain you can get everything there is in calm support separately. It’ll take a little planning but it can be done. Matt used to (or maybe the article is still on here) talk about a supplement that also incl. kava but the product-line got closed down, if I remember correctly, because it was presented as ‘support for quitting opioids’ and apparently that was a big no, no. You could perfectly well find everything that was in there as well (I think kava is one of the ingredients that’s a little more difficult to get in the U.K. but not impossible! Of that I’m certain).
The L part of DLPA is actually the pre cursor to L-tyrosine. But it’s really important you have a plan, preferably a good support net, etc. Well, everything is written about, by Matt extensively, so browse around. If you have the means, you might consider ibogaine … There is a really good clinic in Portugal called Tabula Rasa. You can contact them, it’s very straight forward – they’re very helpful.
I’m obviously not a doctor, I just know quite a bit from first & second hand experience and from reading Matt’s stuff and A LOT of books. And more recently involvement with drug education – through which I know a lot of ‘real’ profesionals’ etc. Should you need any advice (I know a couple of people in the U.K. as well, who are actively involved in addiction support) you can write … Or maybe ask for mail but that’s probably against protocol.
Hope that helps.

WOW! DLPA is AMAZING! I just tried it now for the first time while I’m tapering subutex. Normally when I taper subs I feel so weak and tired that I can’t even get out of bed. Now not only am I out of bed and feeling active and good, I actually feel better then my baseline on subs! It’s crazy! I think today is a day for house cleaning.
I tapered 1 mg right now and I am at 3 mg a day (though my ROA makes it more like 6 mg and no I’m not IVing it). The amount of DLPA I took was 750 mg though I imagine if I had done a larger cut I probably would of had to take more but at the moment 750 mg seems perfect.

Where are you at currently with the sub taper? Keep your reductions to 25% maximum! NEVER make a reduction unless you are completely stable on your current dose! NEVER make a reduction larger than 25%!

Matt,
If I am taking Elimdril daytime and nightime now do I need to add another DLPA to it ?
Matt Finch
No, it has DLPA in it.

Hi, I am wondering where can I buy calm support in the UK , I can’t find it anywhere only in the USA , Is there anything that is just as good in the uk which isn’t too expensive , I already take DLPA 500mg once a day to start building up I just need to find something not too expensive that is similar to calm support in the UK, any suggestions please ? Thank you

Hey Matt & Visitors alike!
I just wanted to share something. Its inexpensive, safe and it worked for me so it might for you.
L in DLPA and mucuna ads to a descent diet if fuel for your brain to create dopamine. As explained in several of the posts on this website. Also explained is downregulation after exposure to artificially high concentrations of one kind of neurotransmitter over an extended period of time. While it’s easy enough to flood the brain – I’d almost say, with the neurotransmitters of choice – it’s much harder to get it functioning again. Diet, exercise, sleep, supplements, etc. are of great help. But upregulating the damage done is by far one of things that I’ve experienced the least control over besides … time and doing everything right in order to let the brain heal. But I found two supplements working very well for me and I definitely am not the only person reporting this.
For dopamine, I found a simple forskolin supplement twice daily incredible. I haven’t used any opiates for a long time but I found this to be true for my add meds. So I’m thinking that maybe it could be a great add on supplement to get every angle cornered. Sorta speak.
The other supplement is a – racetam and has been clinically trailed with incredible high doses (for ADHD). But I have found it doing wonders for the GABA system. When I’m facing a deadline I always start to have crippling anxiety. I know it’s not how to handle things in an ideal world but these deadlines are once a year or so. I react to valium a bitt like Matt described in the podcast with Julia Ross. Energy is too big a word but I don’t experience getting tired but a calm tranquility, clear-headed and able to focus. I used as a kind of add med before I diagnosed. These days it just makes able to work. After the deadline almost minute by minute, I’m fine. I taper the valium very quick. Usually, get weird dreams. It gets a bit like; ok, in what crazy adventure will I land myself tonight. Adventure makes it sound fun but it really makes you wonder what exactly it is that’s in there:)
Fasoracetam has made this way, way easier to get through. I imagine both can be used if you’re restoring from opiates. Unless of course there’s something I’m missing.
Hang in there everyone!

Hey Matt,
something crossed my mind;
If you, for instance, were to take 2000 mg DLPA three times per day.
But mucuna is superior in raising dopamine levels … would it make sense to leave out the L and take 2000 mg of DPA (although it’s a lot harder to find). Would you reap more benefits in regards to its endorphin ‘Pac-man’ effects?
And then use Mucuna, Tyrosine of LPA separate from that?
Or is that a flawed assumption?:)
Great podcast!!
Matt Finch
Hey Nico,
Glad you like the podcast!
And that is a great assumption and it can work quite well doing it like your insight shows.
Also, to raise endorphins, even more, don’t forget to eat 75% or higher dark chocolate and grass-fed ribeye steak!
Matthew Vantine
Hey Matt,
Any insight on taking DLPA while on antidepressants? I am currently taking Myrapex, Lexapro and Buspar. After getting off of a decade long bender of opiates, Benzos and then Kratom, I have been unable to experience any sort of joy. Mostly just discomfort… and it’s been a little over a year. I don’t trust my psychiatrist’s opinion at this point.
#1 is it safe to take DLPA while on a dopamine-stimulating drug like Myrapex?
#2 have you heard anything about DLPA’s efficiency for getting off of antidepressants?
Matt Finch
Typically DLPA would be contraindicated using dopamine-stimulating drugs, however, DLPA in low dose (500-1000 mg a day) seems like it would be very safe, but each person and case is unique. Additionally, DLPA can help while tapering and transitioning off dopaminergic antidepressants, but serotonin reuptake inhibitors it wouldn’t help nearly as much, if much at all.

CAN AMINO ACID’S HAVE ADVERSE EFFECTS?
I followed the protocol as described in the book ‘End Your Addiction Now’ by Charles Gant M.D.
With desirable effect.
But I also use ADHD medications which I absolutely need for profession.
I started to notice a diminished efficiency … a couple of weeks onwards it basically stopped working.
Before you say; that’s because your brain chemistry is set straight – it’s not. Amino Acid Therapy for mood, cravings, paws, etc. YES.
They are however no cure for ADHD, AUTISM or any other affliction …
Now I’ve come across an ADHD expert who’s all too familiar with the phenomenon.
This is what she had to say;
The problem with supplementing with amino-acid is that it is poorly studied.
The research I have found points to risks of actually down-regulating receptors — due to flooding the brain with those molecules.
The only way you can tell is if you stop taking them for a while and see.
At any rate, I’ve heard from many adults with ADHD who’ve tried this route that the effect goes away in a few weeks. More support for the down-regulation theory.
– I haven’t been able to do any work for three weeks wondering what was wrong …
Fair warning.
lora
Follow up:
First I read the mood cure. I thought it was very interesting but at that point in time, I didn’t go through with using one of those methods because the necessity wasn’t there. Although I might have been wrong about that.
Then I came across this site which is a bit like hitting a treasure trove.
Then I read the book by Charles Gant.
When you first read it – and you’ve read Julia Ross before that – You kinda figure; Yep. It’s very specific whereas the mood cure covers more ground.
I started following his strategy to tackle Endorphin Deficiency.
I honestly had the feeling it worked … I did a lot of other stuff too but that was my supplement protocol.
At this moment in time, I was expensive but I could afford it. Then what I described above happen. I started to think and compare, looked around at anything I could find. I stumbled across this other book which was absolute dynamite;
– Brain in Balance;)
Check it out. You can ge the audible trial version for free if you cancel within thirty days. And the funny thing is You can listen, return – ‘didn’t like the performer’ – pick a new one but get to keep the one you ‘returned’. (Mood Cure doesn’t exist in audible. DON’t buy the summary. You’ll regret it for the rest of your life. Even if you return it!
I kept on looking for an explanation although I’m doing the best I can to accept that it’s gonna suck for a while. And that that’s ok. The looking get’s obsessive and there are no definite answers that fit everyone.
But I started comparing Ross to Gant. I noticed a massive difference in tone – Ross says; this is what we know – that happened – I think – based on what I see every day…
I can’t really put my finger on it but he’s a bit to certain of himself. In between intimidating, knowledgeable, convincing – because of it’s simplicity – and explicit. This will bring that. period.
One thing that really springs out is the dosages that one is supposed to take.
Another is the enormous difference in nuance.
Now I feel/think Gant had part of the story right. But I also have the feeling that it’s dated, the dosages are too high en because of how it’s written – I just went head-on. The warnings are probably in there and maybe I missed the nuance …
But I urge ppl. to reed al three books. And not just Gant. I think I get a ‘quack’ feeling after reading those two other books. I don’t know if he said it or not; ut there are ppl. who advertise amino acid therapy as a cure of sorts for autism and add but that’s just not how it works. Amino’s will help restore your brain and neurotransmission (and a lot of other stuff:)- but always to your biological baseline. If you genetically dopamine deficient; amino’s won’t help. They will get you from beneath too your baseline faster. But there it stops. Same for the other systems.
Then that will have to be addressed. If the problem is of that magnitude that it gets you into trouble somehow. Maybe it’s possible with amino’s – but there’s not enough research. I for one totally wasn’t expecting a backlash in this way. But if it’s happening to me – It could also happing with other people who don’t have ADHD. Too much of a good thing …
And you’re actually doing the opposite of what you’re aiming for.
It’s not a rock-solid opinion – just the way I feel at the moment.
I would be really interested to hear what you think, Matt?
And anyone else who has any thoughts on this?
(I know they work well:)
Just felt sharing.
Thank you.
Matt Finch
This is a great post you’ve written. Thanks so much for taking the time to post this here. I’ve read two of those books and learned a lot. Certainly there are much better and more advanced supplement protocols nowadays than when those old books were written. Even just in the past year there have been such fantastic nutraceuticals created that my personal coaching clients are never told to just take separate aminos etc. The progression of nutrient-based therapies for detox, brain repair and recovery is going really fast FINALLY, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Hi Matt ~ Just wanted to give you a thousand thank you’s for sharing this aweson information. I run short of my percs every damn month – (and I have no intention of quiting. I do go to a pain management clinic, but I have a lifelong natural high tolerance and there’s no point beating my head against the wall anymore trying to get through to them I am under-medicated. Just grateful I can still get a script these days) – and your articles and taking DLPA, L-tyrosine and L-theanine are life savers. Sending you all my gratitude. 💜💜💜
Matt Finch
I’m so glad you liked the info and these amino acids. They are 3 of my favorites, if not my top 3! Thanks so much for the feedback, and I wish you the best, my friend.
Dana
hey matt – I posted above. I’m currently going through a taper of suboxone. As you know, the lower you get the harder it is. I found this site and tried DLPA. I’m a 29 year old female who has been on them for 7 years.
I have been gradually dropping from 6-8mg since July. I have finally gotten to 1.5mg but couldn’t seem to drop any further. I then found this site and bought DLPA. All of a sudden everything was fine and it was even better than my baseline! So i followed some taper advice on how to use DLPA and dropped from 1.5mg to .75mg.
That was 6 days ago. the DLPA has made this manageable when usually it is not. At day 6 (today) I feel the worst. This is how much DLPA I have been taking: 500 mg when I wake up. Then 500 mg around 2pm. Then 500 mg around 5pm. I feel shitty today. Am I gaining a tolerance already to the supplement or is it just because the drop of the suboxone is coming to a head. Do you think I should take more DLPA? Though, I don’t want to overdo it. I also take it with a b complex and vitamin c.
Or – Are there other supps I can take to feel better w/ the DLPA instead of taking more?.
Since I am still able to work and it’s manageable, should i just assume I’ll feel shitty and that it would be MUCH MUCH worse without the dlpa? just wondering if there’s anything i can do to not feel like crap physically :).
note: i feel the best I’ve felt mentally in 7 years from DLPA. Even DURING this rapid taper.. cannot believe it. I’m hoping though that there’s something else I can use to help even a bit more because I’m not 100 percent. I’m about 70 percent
Another note: I am also currently tapering klonopin. But much slower.
Kat Steiner
How long does it typically take for DLPA to work for opiate cravings after acute wd?
Matt Finch
Depends on the person. Some people get relief in a few days others a week or two or longer.

i had a question Matt can i take l-theanine and DLPA at the same time and what dosage for energy and brain boost. is it bad to take dlpa 500mg twice a day and i am on l-theanine 100mg about 400mg a day. i have fibromyalgia and had an injury in 2002 broke my ankle since then had about ten surgeries and i am not taking any meds for pain at all now.
Lore
I don’t see any problem with that. DLPA helps with the pain. You could do 500-1000 mg DPLA -3 times a day. L-theanine does in no way conflict with any of that. It’s a great supplement! That’s just my humble opinion. It won’t do anything for your pain though.
For the fibromyalgia I suggest you take a look at the following;
Coenzyme Q10
CoQ10 appears to be quite strongly effective for reducing symptoms of fibromyalgia. This is from the BEST site on all things supplements!!
our team is composed of scientists, not marketers; all we do all day, every day, is analyze studies on nutrition and supplementation, to answer your questions.
Agmatine might be another one to look into.
Hope it helps.

Hi Matt, can DLPA help if still on opiates and not going off?
Matt Finch
Absolutely.
Adam
Hello Matt,
Just wanted to say thanks for your articles. I was turned onto them by the one with the slow taper plan along with supplement suggestions. I used opiates for 12 years and over the past two years switched to suboxone, which is both a great drug yet equally addictive n hard to quit. I got the gumption to go for it after reading your material, though I’ve always been skeptical of supplements or holistic stuff (I just assumed they were the stuff not good enough for good ole western medicine) I immediately had positive benefits from DLPA. What sold me on it was the idea that it’s an endorphine reuptake inhibitor, and since I run a lot that sounded great. Since then I’ve sort of followed your advice and “things to buy” religiously, sort of like a cult follower. My cabinet of supplements is larger than rodger clemens. Anyway, again, I just want to thank you because after starting the taper in September, it’s now January and I’m clean. You ought to be on the view or something and make the rounds, because I don’t personally know people that have actually quit suboxone. Thank you
Matt Finch
Hey Adam,
I can’t thank you enough for posting this comment here. I love reading feedback like this! Congrats for giving supplements a chance, and I’m glad that you’re learning so much and buying things that can likely help you feel better getting off and staying off Suboxone. Well done!! -Matt
Aaron peterson
Hey guys my names Aaron. I’m on board with my suboxone taper already ( waiting for my solgar DLPA right now ) I’ve gone down from 16mg’s to about 6 per day and already feel the negative effects . I’ve got depression and some anxiety already. It’s hard to feel any pleasure and I’m pretty grumpy and hopeless . Can I start taking the DLPA right away ? Within the next week I’ll be going down to 5mgs then down another 1mg every 2 weeks untill I’m at 1mg. Then I’ll prob do .25 every 2 weeks untill I’m at just .25 per day . I’m pretty freaked about anxiety because I’ve experienced it full blown before . Any suggestions and or encouragement would be so awsome . I wana do this and end this addiction for good .
Rebekah
Matt…..and all, I’ve been reading your posts and suggestions on your website for over 6 days now trying to learn all I can to help my daughter kick Suboxene naturally and I am confused! I first read that the product CalmSupport supplement which contains the following; Passion Flower, L-Theanine, Valerian Root, Velvet Bean, Ginger, GABA, Ashwagandha, L-Tryptophan HELPS kicking Suboxene and also see here that DPLA is a must to tolerate withdraw symptoms. Can these 2 supplements be taken together? Seems a bit too much?
I know the effects can be different and supplements work differently for everyone but so many today are SO financially strapped, and want to start my love one out on what might be best and with what works best. Can someone please write back as to whether these can be taken together, and/ or is one best and better than the other/ OTHERS. This addiction and the many suggestions is a horrific….. situation to sort out for so many in today’s world. Thank you so much for the help with this you share.
Dana
i feel the same way! i didnt really want to come off of the subs because i never felt good. until reading your article and finding the dlpa. now i have hope and am coming off!

Hello friend. Is this stuff expensive? I’m not got much money. Thanks. Dave ✌️

No, these items are not too bad, monetarily speaking. I always buy through Amazon.

Your absolutely amazing! I’ve struggled well over 12 years on and off wore out and tired. I wanted it so bad. I jumped from 1mg of Suboxone on a 5 year run and smooth sailing with what you’ve suggested. Minimal WD symptoms. Thank you so so so much! Your heaven sent!

Hi Matt,
Greetings from Down Under!
Your work sounds valid, the more I read, the more I like. Thank YOU.
Twenty plus years, ( with more drug fuelled dramatic prior history), but, twenty years on methadone.
Tapered this year from 60 ml to 5ml and in two days time drop to 2.5 ml.
I hope to miss taking as many of my take always over a fortnight, then , no more clinic.
I don’t take any pills, but have been using small, amounts of coke, for energy.
Obviously not recommended .
Do you think cocaine hinders the elimination of methadone?
Thank you for this interesting info on supplements.
I had no idea such things existed.
I hope to access some DLPA to take over the coming weeks.
Kind regards
Kaz
kaz
Hi Matt,
I’m responding to my own comments , sent three days ago.
So , using cocaine to help with energy, has now stopped.
The anxiety completely detremental..DUH !!!
So now on the lowest dose of methadone 2.5 mac.
I do yoga , every morning.
I eat fairly well, although will be making some of your recommended adjustments, more protein, less sugar etc.
I have always worked hard, always combined with the stress of clinic days.
Horrible situation, trying to get to work on time, after going to clinic.
The clinic , don’t get me started on what I think about that business sector.
Anyhow, going to , hopefully buy some of your recommended supplements today.
My energy is low and my mind flatlines about 1pm everyday, have been sleeping ok.
Thanks for all information Matt, inspiring.
Kind regards
Kaz
tom
If energy is still an issue, try l-tryrosine, an amino acid. It gives you an norepinephrine and dopamine boost for 4 hours so you can power through the day with no problem.
Suzanne M.
Kaz, I hope you are doing well and are totally off methadone. I’m just beginning the thought process of tapering
Currently on 65mg. Daily
Did you find that the supplements helped any withdrawals or did you have any at all?
kaz
#note to self…current dose 2.5 mas, 0.5 ml .
Sue66b
Kaz,
Gee you’re doing really well, have you taken the DL-Pherylalanine Supplement yet??
I dont think you need it..
Jack
How much dlpa were you taking ?
Eve Brown
Can you take these supplements while on suboxone?
Dana
hey! i’m on about the same dose as you and going to jump off in the next month. i JUST dropped to .75 from 1.5mg and have been using DLPA. amazing. question: when you dropped, how much dlpa did you use and when? and did you use anything else? thank you!!!
Cyndi
Thanks for the article. I am addicted to kratom- yes u can get addicted. I started using it for depression and anxiety- years after quitting a life of hard drugs. Now I’ve been using k every day for about 6 years. I just purchased DLPA and l tyrosine and I’m excited to take the plunge. Haven’t started taking them yet but I’m done buying k and as soon as my stash is low I’m going to start taking the supps. I’m hoping ithey help make withdraws less of a bitch. Wish me luck
Mike
I wish you the best Cyndi. I’ve used kratom in the past and 2 months ago I quit a full-on heroin habit. I feel so much better than I did in April. It can be done but you and I both know that it is not easy. But it is possible. You can do it. All the best, Mike
Kathy
Hi Cyndi. Oh my God, I’m in the same spot right now. I’ve been taking Kratom for 6 months now and my tolerance is through the roof. I wish I never even heard of this crap! I just want off of everything.
My last Kratom day will be Wednesday, 7/26. Prayer for me and I’ll pray for you.
And yes people, Kratom IS addictive.
Dawn
Hi. How did it go. I used kratom to get off methadone and now I’m stuck on kratom. I’ve been using it for almost a year and ready to taper off. I get withdrawals from the kratom and looking for a way to ease them and wondering about this supplement.
Thanks.
D.Shelby
How much methadone and for how long was you on and what was the best Kratom to use to come off methadone
Joanna
NO! Please don’t use kratom. It’s highly addictive.
Anonymous Truth
Didn’t even realize people needed help with Kratom withdrawal other than the teenagers on reddit who have no idea what they’re in for. In reality Kratom withdrawal is like having a cold for a few days…
Anonymous
That’s so far from the truth. I’ve been through heroin, Suboxone and alcohol withdrawals and kratom was by far the hardest to quit. It’s mental torment and all the classic withdrawal symptoms you get from other opiates. It’s so far from having a “cold” for a few days. I’m 9 days off and just now able to walk around without feeling like passing out. More than anything, the mental part is the worst and way more intense than anything else I’ve come off of.
Lola
Agree 100 percent. I had to go to rehab for Kratom. Harder to quit than norcos, more psychological. Worst experience of my life.
Jason
I definitely agree that Kratom is addicting, but I only experienced mild withdrawal symptoms when I gave it up. Nearly 4 years….every day, multiple times per day. This was years ago, and around here no one had any idea what it was at the time. I referred to it as “dirt”, and people here are still using the term.
Anyways, Im not trying to minimize anyones symptoms. I’m guessing that biochemistry has a huge influence on the severity of withdrawals, and we all have our own unique “biochemical profiles”.
I wish only the best to anyone struggling with addiction. It doesn’t matter what substance, or what dosage…the struggle is just as real across the board. Addiction is truly a living hell.
Hillary
It’s a naturally occurring opioid. It’s similar to coming off of coffee. Unless the person doesn’t take breaks and continually ups their dose. Like many other things, it needs to be used appropriately!
Sara
Ha! I wish Kratom withdrawal was like having a cold for a few days. I’ve been a heroin addict and Kratom is on par with the withdrawal from that. Plus it being readily accessible doesn’t help.
Nikole C.
Uh, sorry, but I have to disagree. I’ve had a cold, and I’ve tried quitting kratom a few years ago…They are NOT the same in the least. My husband and I both have been taking kratom everyday (quite a bit) for almost 8 years. Like I said, I tried quitting a few years ago and gave up after 3 days because of the horrible withdrawl symptoms. I have kids, and there was no way I would have been able to keep up with them considering not only the physical side effects of trying to quit but mainly the psychological ones (EXTREME apathy-depression even, no interest in doing anything whatsoever, etc). I also had severe restless legs AND arms when trying to sleep at night, diarrhea, NO appetite, headaches, absolutely no energy, no sex drive, etc)..
Anyway, my point is you are SO VERY WRONG and it is frustrating for those that have experienced this to have people deny it. I agree, quitting kratom might be easier for some, but obviously extremely hard for others. It also depends on how long and how much you’ve been taking.
I remember trying to find forums or anything back then to help, and it was like searching for a needle in a haystack. Now when I search, I find countless others just like me, which obviously tells me more and more people that have tried to quit have realized it’s not so easy and the symptoms are VERY REAL!
My husband has been weaning for the past week, and boy, he is going through it. I have always admired him for his strength and determination-and he is determined to quit completely-but even he is having such a rough time (he was a heavy meth user in his teenage years and quite that cold turkey when joining the military) He says even though that was hard, he has never experienced anything like kratom withdrawl. That says a lot!
I carry a lot of guilt as well, because I am the one that discovered it and got us both hooked. At first, it was AWESOME (I have a little bit of social anxiety and it was great for getting rid of that).. Having sex after taking it was amazing…I can’t describe it.. Until it wasn’t.. Now it has done the opposite to me which isn’t fair to my husband as well so I just know now is the time to get off for good. There will no be ‘occasional usage’ for me after I’m done. I have to never take it again.. I am scared to quite because I need to be present and there for my kids.. My youngest is 6 and she obviously wants to play with me and do things together and I remember the awful anxiety and depression when I tried to quit before, and that was only for like 3 days! However, I believe summer break is the right time because there is not the responsibility of taking kids to school and everything involved with that..
I remember when they were trying to ban kratom a while ago.. I was totally against it, but not because I thought of it as a healing plant, but because I knew I needed it to function daily. I fought hard to keep it legal.. Signing this petition and that, posting on forums about it’s “wonderful benefits”..And thought of it as a victory when they weren’t able to ban it. Now, I’m not so sure, If anything, it should be heavily regulated in my opinion. I know it has helped others with certain health and mental issues, but it is so easy to start taking a little more here and there and become addicted. This plant is very powerful..
I have begun learning about meditation, my chakras, benefits of stones and crystals.. I even bought a Tibetan singing bowl (if you haven’t heardof them, I suggest you research it) and something about actually playing the bowl and the sound it makes is so interesting and comforting.
My point is, I do believe the addiction recovery process needs to encompass not just taking care of the physical and psychological symptoms, but also making sure you are doing what you helps you spiritually (if you don’t believe in that ‘stuff’, fine, but I know it will help me because I do believe).
D (my husband) is detailing and documenting his recovery process each day in hopes that he will be able to use it to help others in the future). I think I will do the same. I helps to write things down and also to talk about them.
Kratom is a beast, and I am going to defeat that beast. I am ordering a DLPA and a few other supplements after I’m done typing this and am honestly so anxious and scared to begin because I know what is coming. However, I have never taken the whole body and mind approach and I know I HAVE to get off this stuff. It has affected every single part of my life, and in turn, affects those around me. And it’s an expensive habit at that. They say to break a habit you have to replace it with another, and I plan on replacing it with many others.
It is comforting to see others that are going through the same.. We can get through this! It will be hard, so we have to be prepared for that, but we can do this!! I’m determined. Good luck to you all
Mike
Were you able to get off kratom? If so what exactly did you do ? Tia
Anonymous
That is so misinformed. Kratom WD is far worse than most hard opiate quits because of the HT2A expression (makes it anti-depressant like). Take it from someone who was addicted to Kratom for 8 years, going in and out of rehab multiple times. It’s very difficult to quit at the high doses.
Travis
Does dlpa come up as anything on a drug screen?
Matt Finch
No it does not.
Patti
Matt is there any difference in using dpa vs dlpa? As I can’t seem to find dlpa in stores near me?
Anonymous
go to Amazon and DL- phenylalanine
Jay
Is one better dlpa and dpa
Erik Swiderski
The problem with Kratom that I find is that 90% of the time I buy it it’s bunk crap that doesn’t work or do anything. Tons of bunk Kratom on the internet.
And this is $50 a pop. Even the crapiest is exspensive.
JD
I purchased something. Recommended I can’t remember the name. They sent me blueberry concentrate. Is that good for withdrawals methadone?
Susan M
Hi Matt, My doctor just put me on Ativan 1 mg 3 times a day to help control or stop I should say my drinking. Unfortunately I had started drinking a bit when I was trying to come off of suboxone. The drinking has become a bit of a problem
The doctors have now decided I need to stay on a low dose of suboxone however they have changed it to just buphrenorphine and no Naloxone (not sure of spelling) I have chronic pain from multiple areas and I refuse to go on any of the other opiates as I know what will happen. So they feel a low dose of buphrenorphine would be best for me but now have to get the drinking under control. As I said they added Ativan which they say helps with the alcohol cravings as it works on the same receptors in the brain as does the alcohol according to the doctor. My question is can the Ativan be used with Calm Support and DAP. Thank you…
Amy
Susan you should look into Kratom. I was drinking alcohol every night while on Suboxone (mainly to help me sleep). Since starting the Kratom I have no cravings at all for anything. And the Ativan should help you sleep at night too. Anyhow just thought I would mention that. I think Matt’s article about Kratom mentions that it’s used for alcohol abuse and when I went to buy it at the health food store, the clerk told me he was an alcoholic and used Kratom and it saved his life. Good luck Susan.
Susan
Thank u Amy,. Not very familiar with Kratom. I know that their are different strainsand don’t have a clue where to purchase kratom
Can u tell me which strain and where the best place to purchase kratom is? Thank you so much?
Amy
Hey susan! I’d be happy to help. I went with Matt’s suggestion and I purchased red Kratom for sleep and white for energy during the day. They have all different names according to where they came from (like red Bali or White Thai and so on) but those are the main ones he recommends. I purchased mine at our local heath food store! There is also a “smoke and brew” place here that sells it, like a place where you would buy materials for vaping etc. I would google “where can I buy Kratom” and search in your area. When you buy it they can advise how to use it but also search this website since Matt wrote a great article about it. Hope that helps.
Jenna
Only buy your kratom from Top Extracts! http://www.topextracts.com. they are the absolute best! Trust me I’ve tried other vendors! I hated the white strands them made me feel super weird. The red maen da is the best..i usually mixed it 2-1 with the supee green Malay which is also I great strand. Hope
this help! But be careful..as I am now a kratom addict who used to be a opiate addict. Traded one for the other..still in the same damn boat!
B Cleveland
I wish I had never heard of kratom.. It’s as hard to detox from as fent patches were.. Be very careful using kratom no matter what people say.. Do your research..
Nichole
I rather be addicted to a plant like Kratom then feed the pharmacies by giving in to opiates!
sara
Agree with B Cleveland. And why Nichole, would you rather be addicted to a plant like Kratom? You’re feeding the vendors just as much. Doesn’t even make sense what you’re saying.
Sheri smith
Did you have a terrible time sleeping on suboxone?? I can’t sleep more than a few hours and it’s constantly interrupted!
JC
Sheri,
I was right there with you! You’re not alone, at all.. it irked me enough that it drove me to remedy it myself.. doc wouldn’t, or was hesitant as to over prescribe and jeopardize the sub treatment.. personally, absolutely no OTC sleep/antihistamine (benadryl) medication worked! Nothing!..Weed did infact work!! All versions of weed. Dab, flowers, cartridges. Make sure to seek ANY HEAVY INDICA STRAINS..Then came VISTARIL!! So good!! And to my docs credit!! Talk to yours!! Then, you know, benzos will for sure work but be strong to stop them as soon as you can/find another way!!! Much love!!!
ej
HI Sheri, First off I hope you are sleeping better.. )
I was on subox for a few years .. and now going on 2 weeks completely off this poison,
that a condescending Dr told me it is safe for pain..
I think any Dr. who prescribes this “long term”
should be required by by the fda to use it themselves first for a year and then try to come off of it.. (so that when they comment or suggest whatever) they know the exact feeling and how it affects sleep by depleting andenosine levels in the brain.. ah ha they dont tell you that maybe because they don’t know themselves.. Yes of course its helpful very shot term if life is at stake.. I am in the same boat but now my only symptom is not sleeping… How are you now and can you give me tips that you found useful?
Why don’t my eyes feel heavy at nite? even tho my body is shakey and lethargic. is that your experience to ? or at the time you wrote this? I will say a prayer for you tonight.. 🙂
may you sleep deep and soundly

So many reference kratom, kratom, kratom almost as much as its advertised. It did ZERO for me. And many others, in the gagillions, have reported the same. ZERO EFFECTS. If the thing was more modestly priced I wouldn’t be pressing the brakes. For me, personally, I’d rather put that money into something else, medically proven, that’ll 100% WORK. Afterall, guys, all the list of things are potentially great, and could very well help generally but we’re talking about JUNKIES. We, junkies, are mostly DEAD ASS BROKE! Getting clean?! I fucking commend you!! You’re a strong motherfucxer. But use you’re already limited amount of money WISELY! Seek and acquire shyt that’ll work 100%!! Point blank! Dont bullshit! Go at it hard, safely ofcourse.. reasonable, recommended doses, come off medications within DAYS.. WE ARE ADDICTS.. ITS THE ADDICTIVE PART I personally have to work on to keep in check.. Benzos work (((DO DELIGENT RESEARCH ON BENZO DOSES!!!! PLEASE KEEP AWAY FROM KIDS!!!))), SUBOXONE WORKS (((~10ea 8mg strip, between 1mg-8mg covers most ppl, DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN THE VERY LEAST YOU CAN COMFORTABLY GET BY WITH, I find it if I go just slightly too long on it I very easily become completely depended, in a way, more so than on dope!! Sub Withdrawals last months!!! ITS NO JOKE!!! GET IN… GET OUT… move on in life… much love everyone…

What great advice. I couldn’t agree more!

Stay away from Kratom!! It’s addictive and the withdrawals made me suicidal. Don’t listen to the people who say it’s like coffee. They are lying to you

Im trying to get my hands on this product as soon as possible but I can’t currently find any availability in Canada. I’ve ordered a bottle today but it may not arrive in time before i leave for two weeks to go heli falling on the west coast of B.C. Im curious tho, If I could get my hands on the main ingredients separately, the DPA and the LPA, would taking them together produce the same result? ..to some degree?
I would really appreciate any info you may have, and Im very excited by the potential these product claims to have!
Thanks for you time!

Hi Matt Is there any interaction with Tramadol? I am wanting to get off of it 150 mg day. There are so many interactions with Tramadol which also gives me horrible headaches that I counteract with a BC powder daily! Ugh I order DL-Phenylethylamine, Calm Support, Ashwagandha 1200mg caps and the Lopo-Spheric Vit C 60 pack to start. Please help! I was prescribed Tramadol 4 years ago after becoming addicted to Hydrocodone. I have chronic back pain but I have a tens unit that helps me deal with the bad days.

Hi matt
I have been taking vitamins/minerals,lipoic acid and dl-phenylaline for four days now. What I was a bit concerned about is the recommended dose dose says take one 500mg caplet a day and no more and so I have been doing this. Is it safe to take the amounts you recommend (1000-2000mg two to three times a day.
Chris.
Matt Finch
Hi Chris,
I got these dosage amounts of DLPA from Dr. Charles Gant and I’ve used these dosages on myself and felt great.
Chris pinner
Hi matt. Chris here;I now take 1000mg DLPA twice a day. I read that if you have any issues with sleep that you shouldn’t take DLPA after 4pm and so given that it takes 5-7 hours for the stomach to empty, how do I take this 3 times a day if I can’t take DLPA after 4pm.
Brenda Calderon
Matt, I tooj my first DLPA this morning 500 mg one. And it gace me a headace,
Im on 11 day of paws. Im so trying anything to get my energy back as Ive been working through the whole withdrawal. I need energy! Pls help!

Can you take .75 mg of Xanax to help you sleep while taking DLPA? If not, what would you suggest, I also take Cymbalta and was prescribed seroquel low does to sleep but i Don’t take it. I know you’re not supposed to take with the DLPA. Thanks.
Matt Finch
Xanax does not have a negative interaction with DLPA. You’ll be all good with those two together.
Stefanie
Thank you so much. I just ordered DLPA on amazon. Does it make you feel funny? I’m going to be at work when I take it. Thanks 🙂
Matt Finch
Awesome! It made me always feel amazing, and most people as well. A small percentage of people say they don’t feel anything, and it gives an even smaller percentage of people a bit of anxiety (so they can take DPA instead), but most people really like the feeling. I respond very well to amino acids and so do most people with addiction, but you can never predict with 100% certainty what any given product will make a person feel like. But it healthy for you to take to get your brain producing those neurotransmitters as opioid use destroys the brain’s ability to do so. Glad you were able to order it Yahoo!

I just quit from heroin additive on last few days ago. Now I’m taking Escitalopram Oxalate 10mg every evening and Clozapine 25mg before bed time. I don’t know which medicines can reduce the withdrawal syndrome and here is very difficult to get some medicines. I’m willing to get help from you to finish for the heroin user. Could I take Loperamide for three days to get recover from heroin withdrawal? I’ll be waiting for your reply and advise.
Jimmy
Been using DPLA when I tapered off of Morphine sulfate. I tapered then went completely off of 30 mg a day (15mg 2x) And now am on Half of a hydrocodone immediate release 5-325 a day. This stuff works fantastic and I’m only on DPLA 750mg once daily and will be taking that 2x a day when I go all the way off. Thank you for this miracle supplement! I truly don’t miss the stronger meds and I’m not in as much pain as I’d though I’d be. I’m 36 years old with a bad back for anyone curious.
Matt Finch
Wow!!! This was so amazing to read your post, Jimmy! Good for you and congrats! 🙂
Mike
Hi Matt, thanks so much for this info. I am here to say that dlpa is absolutely for real. I am 8 days off of a horrific heroin habit and I cannot believe how much better I feel – especially mentally and emotionally. I added the dlpa 3 days ago and felt the effects yesterday. I was shocked by how profound it was. Subtle yet profound.
Amy
Jimmy do you have an update because your story is amazing! Is that the only supplement you used?
Jimmy
Sorry for the late reply. Yes I am doing great!I usually Take between 2-3 750 mg tablets of DPLA a day. Usually 2 in the morning and one in the afternoon/evening time. It works for me and it’s so freeing!Im also a believer in the power of prayer, so that’s definetly a plus

Working on tapering my opiate dosing. I am currently being prescribed Cymbalta 30 mg daily for depression. Is it safe to take the DLPA?
Matt Finch
Google “Cymbalta DLPA interactions” and that’s how to find out for any combination of things.
Courtney
I have been taking DLPA 1500mg 1× daily for the last 1 & 1/2 months since coming off suboxone & methadone after 14yrs. I’m noticing that on the days I forget to take it, it seems like I am experiencing some mild opiate-like withdrawals again. Is it possible to have some sort of withdrawal such as increased anxiety, inability to focus, depression, yawns, & also sniffles when I don’t take it? I can’t figure out why I will be fine for a time, then feel like I’m in acute withdrawal at other times… over 2 months after stopping the opiates. My last dose of suboxone was 6/14/17… Its now 8/28/17. Thank you in advance
Tammy
I would say make sure you take it daily and probably ween down , don’t just not take it.
Literally took me a year to start feeling better. I was on same medication as you for 18-20 years. I can say thanks to Kratom I feel better. It’s been 21/2 years that I’ve stopped . I may try DLPA to see if it helps me get back to normal . I was never told being on these meds that it would cause such a problem. I was on it for pain .
Donna
I was put on oxycodone for pain by my Doctor in 2005 and I am so afraid to come off it. I can only imagine how bad my pain will be if I stop this medication. I wonder why someone doesn’t create a medication that would solve this problem. Really! They are making us feel like we are the problem. Why don’t they create a good pain killer that is NOT ADDICTIVE!
Bay
I have no idea if you’ll be able to see this, but I’m almost positive you’ll be surprised to find your pain actually -decreases- upon stopping the opiates. Part of the way they interact with the brain emphasizes and increases pain.

I’m off a couple days w/o taking Suboxone. Will this supplement help me not withdraw ?
JC
Subs are a biatch!! Seriously, subs are a motherfucxer to get over.. they work wonders to help kick a habit but its a double edged hell of a sword as well!.. I remember clear as day, months after first cpl attempts to quit sub I’d feel shitty, tired, depressed, not wanting to do anything. Total lack of motivation. I guess the best word to describe what I experience on sub withdrawal is LETHARGY!! No energy for nothing!! As soon as I’d take .5-1mg worth of a sub strip I’d be completely fine!! Dependency takes a hold QUICKLY and it’s grasp is of superman strength.. I succeeded on my 3rd try.. weening off GRADUALLY I firmly believe is the best way.. do not lie and tell doc you need more than what you actually need, like me.. dug myself into a hole that goes deep my friend.. do not be scared either, my lady!! Gagillions of ppl were also successful.. be honest at programs, take only smallest amount you’re able to grt away with and feel normal and active, then ween off SLOWLY… WEED, VISTARIL FOR SLEEP… have a plan set ahead of time is very important as well!.. by that I mean improve your nutrition gradually and it works wonders to start a regimented physical activity you can commit to 1-2x a week that you can easily break a sweat within 30min.. keep in touch.. much love!
Paul Strand
I forgot to ask where can I get DLPA if that is what you recommend and if so at what rate should I take it?
sydney
We’re you able to find any? I am withdrawing from hydrocodone and would love some relief from these symptoms, particularly fatigue and low energy.
Tim C.
Most vitamin/supplement supplement aisles have it.

I have severe Neuropathy in my feet and clear up to my knees. It started twenty years ago and my doctor put me on Gabapentin and Methadone 10Mg of Methadone and two Gabapentin capsules three times a day. It has been twenty years now and my currant doctor started to taper me off of the methadone five weeks ago. This is my first week with no Methadone and I am in horrific pain in my legs and feet. I am a 71 year old man and I don’t know if I can continue with this pain for several weeks. I took a half of 1mg Alprazolam last night to help me sleep and woke up feeling better, but as I write this the pain is returning in spades. What do you suggest I do? I wasn’t given any advice about the Gabapentin so I am continuing it’s use, but I’m not sure. Please help me
Heather
Hey Paul, have you ever tried kratom? It is a good natural painkiller that could be worth a try for you. It also helps with opiate withdrawal.
Matt Finch
What Heather said is right on. Here is an article I wrote on kratom in case any readers want to learn more:

I can’t get it shipped in Indiana 🙁
Matt Finch
Wow!? I have a client that lives in Indiana and he has DLPA that he ordered online and got shipped to him. Are you sure? Do you have Amazon.com? I’m quite sure they ship to Indiana, although maybe you live in a very small town somewhere there?
Joanna
NO! Please don’t use kratom. It’s highly addictive.
Lola
Agreed!! Stay away from Kratom!!!
Donna
Paul, Lyrica works better than Gabapentin for some people. It would require your Dr. to write a new prescription for it rather than the Gabapentin. Go on their website and you will see ways you can get help from Pfizer to afford the medicine. REALLY HELPFUL WAYS! Did you ask the Doctor why they are taking you off the methadone? It seems rather cruel if it has really been helping you. Please Google kratom and carefully read what has been written about it. I would also get a Doctor’s opinion. You and I are way older than alot of people on this website so things affect us differently than the younger people.
Cici
Hello. I was only able to find L-Phenylalanine 500mg at GNC. Will that do or should I go and purchase DLPA online? How much and how often should I take the L Phenylalanine or DLPA?
Luv2rockU
You can take DLPA 500 mgs x 3 per day. Just go super slowly. As I was up all night in the beginning . Start with 500 see how you feel. Hang in there.
Nicole
Hello….I’m 36 yrs old and currently taking 80 mgs of methadone every day. Im ready to start tapering my dosage. I’m so tired of methadone dictating every aspect of my life! I dont want to have to take a couple pills everyday just to function for the rest of my life! Today is my first day taking DLPA. Can I take Calm Support during the tapering process as well? I also started taking 750 mgs of GABA about a hour before bed because it helps me relax enough to fall asleep. Thank you in advance for your help!
Luv2rockU
Abosolully you can take calm support. I started calm support two weeks b4 my withdrawl added DLPA. It helps so much. Go for it good luck.
Joe
Hi Matt. I have seen on other websites that DPA can be superior to DLPA for methadone withdrawl. I am tapering down and on 4 ml per day and my energy level is horrible. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Lisa
I am on 40mg of Prozac. Can I still take calms support and dlpa during my taper?

Hi Matt!
I’m not sure if you are still answering questions here but I bought the book end your addiction now from your recommendation but he suggests many more supplements. I went out and bought them all but I’m scared to start them because my stomach is sensitive and Im sensitive to stimulants. I don’t even drink coffee! I was wondering if it would still be beneficial if I started at 500? I really need to stop being so depressed. It’s crippling and it’s ruining my marriage. Thank you
Susan
Sorry just found the link and I did miss the spelling in my earlier reply. Triangle trio is the correct spelling. My apologies. Do u think it would be to much with the Calm Support DAP and Reishi mushrooms or should I add that as well. Thanks again!
Susan
Also..regardimgy detox from Suboxone, you mentioned a type of mushrooms that may help. I think they were spelled Reshi? Would they help with the Calm Support I have ordered? Just wanted to to make sure I can take the DAP and where to find it as well as the right type of mushrooms I read about in one of your blogs. I am pretty sure they started with an R. Sorry for sounding so anxious.
Matt Finch
Yes reishi is the mushroom and I would take that as well. This article has the exact info on the reishi and other adaptogen herbs I like:
How To Taper Off Suboxone Like a Champion>>
Susan
Hi..I am detoxing from Suboxone which I have been on for 9 years. It was prescribed by a pain clinic. I just ordered Calm Support. I read about what you said about DLAP and since I have anxiety as well as slight high blood pressure you said DAP would be better if I understood you correctly, along with the Calm Support. Where can I find just the DAP. I want to make sure I am getting the right thing and am worried I may get the wrong one.(that’s my anxiety kicking in) is there a link you could provide. Also, with the Calm Support is it necessary to take the DAP?
Matt Finch
Hi Susan,
The only place I’ve ever found DPA is on Amazon.com. It’s made by a brand called Doctor’s Best. It works very well and doesn’t cause anxiety or a rise in blood pressure. I had a client that took DPA with Calm Support and he said the combo worked very well and it didn’t give him worse anxiety than normal, as he takes Klonopin for an anxiety disorder.
Susan
Thank you a thousand times for answering my questions. One thing more you mention is a trio of Kalni (not sure if spelled right) supplements from Hawaii I believe. I think you said you even sell the product but I have lost the link. Would they help as well or would that be to much with the Calm Support DAP Reishi mushrooms and Vitamins? Thanks again…I am down to 3mg for 4 days now but I am feeling it. It is hard as well to shave off the tablet and get the right dose but I am trying and have family support. Pls let me know ow what you think about adding the Kalani? Trio
Matt Finch
Yes the Kyani is my favorite supplement in the world!!! Totally changed my life! I recommend it to everyone that values health!
Susan
Hi again..I just went to the Triangle site and am a bit confused about which of the ones you would recommend for the Suboxone detox. I saw a trio.. sunrise, sunset and I think nitro but then there was an extreme version I think. Can u tell me exactly which ones would be best along with calm support and DAP? Thanks so much.. Susan
Matt Finch
The Triangle with the Nitro Xtreme option!!! The best! Get that one. Perfect with Calm Support and DPA.

I’ve been on methadone for going on 7 years I take 10mg per day pretty low dose but I’ve never been able to get past the 10mg. I would like to do this on my own without having to pay for treatment for the withdrawals. I am a single mother and work full time, I can’t afford to be sick from not having my meds and I can’t accomplish any of my day to day responsibilities like that. I want to get off this crap once and for all and never look back. And I want to be off before I turn 32 on July 25th 2017. I need a plan to beat this. Please help!!! I am a Drug and Alcohol counselor as well, I don’t abuse my med I take it like I’m supposed to and prescribed by my family dr and refuse to go to the methadone clinic.
Matt Finch
Those are some great goes Kalee! I would love to help! Here is the best article I’ve written on coming off methadone. It should be a helpful place for you to start.
How To Get Off Methadone Without Withdrawal>>
Jill
Hi Matt,
Thanks so much for this website. It’s a long story that I won’t go into now, but for the first time in over 20 years I am farther down the road to freedom from being opiate dependent than I probably ever have been. I’ve used a couple of your suggestions concurrently so I can’t say I know for sure which of these “worked” but I used marijuana, gabapentin, and loperamide and have been doing very well. I just ordered the CALM SUPPORT and also bought the DPLA. My question for you now is: is there any issue with the gabapentin and the supplements? Thanks so much!
Matt Finch
Hi Jill,
So glad to hear about your success thus far! The only contraindication is with gabapentin and a few of the nutrients in Calm Support such as passion flower, valerian, and other things that increase GABA. However, in my opinion the amounts are so small that it’s safe to take with gabapentin. But, as you know I cannot give medical advice so please only use this comment for information and as always meet with your healthcare provider to see if you can take these together. If it were me, I would use the medicines and supplements you mentioned all together. Glad you have gabapentin as that is my favorite med for getting off opiates. Take care!

This blog/website has completely changed ny miserable outlook about getting off Tramadol after ten+ years.
I can’t get a lot of the remedies you cite, eg kratom…..but DLPA is available! So excited about this
** My query…..bought L-Phen in error and haste.
Is there any point in taking this in the meantime, til I can buy DLPA?
Thanks again for all this great information: really vastly encouraged that I can actually hope, at long last
Matt Finch
Glad your outlook has changed! And yes L-phen is great to take in the meantime because it still increases dopamine. Great supplement!

I have been on opioids for chronic intractable pain for since 2005 when I had cancer and went through surgery, then chemo & radiation at the same long 5 months-my skin was so burned it was pealing off I’m the most unfortunate places as I had colon cancer. I was on a PCA short for patient controlled analgesic. Before I knew it I was puching that button every 15 minutes flooding my body with Dilaudid inn addition to 120mg of Morphine through the course of the day. I cold barely walk but even with all those opioids I was still in pain. After I beat the cancer that is where my merry go round started. I could not get off the opioids. My oncologist was knowledgeable in managing the pain of cancer and the treatment but not how to get me off the high doses of morphine and dilaudid. I had a habit from 6 months of pain management. This is when I realized what deep s_ _ t. To complicate matters I’m a recovering addict of 24 years and yes it is my belief that those in recovery are not martyrs and health care is an outside issue to be discussed with my sponsor and the Hod of my understanding. I spent many years in significant pain and it was a very thoughtful and difficult decision to start pain management. I’ll regress for a moment-I went to detox to get off the morphine & dilaudid. I wished myself dead at times. I gladly tried PT, steriod injections, nerve blocks, TENS,heat & ice therapy & a fitted back brace. Some provided mild aim relief but I was still in a great deal of pain. My entire spine is degenerating and riddled with arthritis, I have 6 herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and my discs are fusing on their own not by surgery which limits mobility. I have had terrible pain in both feet and 2 different neurologists said it is sensory neuropathy and their is nothing to do to help me. I n June 2017 I found an excellent neurologist who was able to make the correct diagnosis through an EMG, biopsies & a spinal tap. I have CIDP which is an autoimmune disease affecting all limbs and stands for Chronic Inflammatory Demylenating Polyneuropathy. It is progressive and the most I can hoe for is periods of remission. It’s symptoms are much like MS. So now my dilemma-The state of PA has instituted maximum doses of opioids the matter what the conditions and then reaches out of its own area of specialty and dictates what other medication can be used by other specialists in their treatment despite the 3 doctors I see all have a list of my illnesses and meds and I use 1 pharmacy. My pain meds have been reduced from Morphine LA 60 mg 3X/day to 15 mg 3/day and last month to Ocycontin 10 mg 3X/day @ Dilaudid 4mg 3X/day to Percocet 5 mg for breakthrough pain last month. I’m at a loss of what I can do to deal with a double edge sword. I am in withdrawal & pain and need to manage both. So far I have managed to maintain my recovery but this scenario is a big red flag and is certainly be considered a huge trigger. Help please.

Hi, I’m Adriana; I feel so much empathy for all the people posting here on Matt’s wonderful blog of helpful, caring advice for those of us desperately coping with the battle of chronic pain and the problems that affect us from the frightening dependence on opiate medications prescribed originally to help ease pain. I am trying to taper from 3 years of tramadol medication for a failed hip replacement that left me with nerve damage and an overly lengthened leg which has imbalanced my body. I am so interested in your stories and hoping for the best for all of the people that I have read about in this blog. Thank you, Matt, for creating this outlet for us and all your research, dedication, and hard work to bring the sunshine back to darkened days.

DL Phenylalanine is indeed a miracle supplement. I have been living with a 20 year on again, off again addiction to opiates. This last two years I have been on Suboxone, and recently tapered successfully. However, the fatigue was killing me and I knew I was in danger of relapsing. Read this website, went to Vitamin Shoppe and purchased a bottle. After taking 2000mg on an empty stomach then lying down, about an hour later all of my fatigue was completely gone. I was in absolute shock. It is now the next morning, and I still feel a boost of energy from this dose I took last night. I have never experienced anything like this coming off of Suboxone or any other short acting opiate (I have a preference for morphine). I can’t believe this isn’t included in methadone detox protocols. Unbelievable. Thank you so much!
Matt Finch
Wow what a great testimonial Chris!! Thanks for sharing!! You rock! 🙂
Chris
Matt, you are very much respected and loved amongst “us”. Thank you for your hard work.
Chris
I would like to ad an update to my previous comment: I have tried using DLPA supplementation with two opiate addicts that I know and have had amazing results. After realizing how powerful and effective this particular supplement is for myself, I decided to advise some addicts I know and went out and purchased Vitamin Shoppe brand 500 mg DLPA for them to self administer under my guidance and direction.
The method I used to help reduce my friends withdrawal symptoms by as much as 90% (anecdotal, first hand account from one user) was to supplement 4000 mgs DLPA per day, divided into two doses along with a vitamin and mineral regimen 30 days prior to opioid agonist cessation. My theory was that the dextro stereo isomer (responsible for increased endorphin availability) would help alleviate complete depletion of endogenous opiate and by starting this regimen while still using, that upon discontinuation the symptoms could be greatly mitigated by increasing their body’s available endorphin count.
Based on Matts research followed by my own research and first hand experience of having a profound increase in energy along with completely eliminating all PAWS, I decided to take this method to task and I have had great success helping two close friends of mine. The vitamin and mineral supplementation includes:
A “once daily” commonly available multi-vitamin of choice; a high quality B-Complex; 500 mg Magnesium oxide; 1000 mg common Vitamin C; 760 mg of Magnesium Hydroxide along with 1000 mcg of L-Methylfolate each evening after me and my friends had eaten dinner.
2000 mg DLPA was taken each morning before breakfast as well as a second 2000 mg dose in the early afternoon before lunch. After two weeks I instructed my friends to take 400 mg of 5-HTP (divided into two doses or 100mg per gram of DLPA) to offset serotonin depletion due to the drastic increase in dopamine production.
Upon discontinuation one of my friends required no additional withdrawal medicines and the other only sustained very mild withdrawal which was easily managed using low dose loperamide hydrochloride (20 mg) to offset any additional symptoms.
Both friends are now on about day 4 of complete discontinuation of insufflated street heroin habits, where they both were consuming approx. 500 mg of “Tar” heroin daily.
Matt, you getting this information out into our community is proving to be a God Send for me and my two friends. I believe that this should be included in methadone detox protocols and that the medical community really needs to take a look at proper amino acid supplementation instead of utilizing expensive, dangerous chemicals to alleviate opiate withdrawal and manage any mental health related issues as a result of decades long, hard core opiate abuse.
I am going to use this method to help as many people as I can. This fight can be won without $50,000.00 detox and rehab stays, missing work and being unable to attend to one’s own life due to a medial necessity for a clinical inpatient stay. I have never had success with quitting opiates and I am a person who has had the luxury of being afforded stays at rehabs and detoxes. This is the only method that seems to have worked for me, and the ease that my friends are having going “cold turkey” is proof enough for me to continue to try and help people that I know who are addicts like myself.
I am not a doctor, this is not medial advice. I am simply reporting that this method is working for me and my friends. Please do not utilize this method if you a phenylketonuric or have an intolerance to phenylalanine.
Again, much love buddy! Your research is right on the money and it is helping a few loser junkies get it together out here in the west. The CIA and Big Pharma really did a number on us here in America when they unleashed the (supposedly safe) hydro/oxycodone tablets into every medicine cabinet in America. It almost seems like addicting a large percent of our country to opiate drugs was the plan all along, and the lives lost because of this epidemic of opium consumption has destroyed countless lives and families. This needs to stop and your blog should be promoted all across the country. Again, thank you so much for your efforts. Together we can beat this thing one addict at a time!!!
Chris
For the record: God Almighty who’s name is Jesus Christ lead me to your website, and let it be known that your research, hard work and highly valuable information on your website is the ONLY THING that has ever truly helped me get clean off opiates. When I say this information is a GOD SEND, I mean every word of it. Thank you buddy! I am going to follow in your footsteps and help every person I can using your information and my methods! A real purpose in life will develop for those who have faith in Jesus Christ and who are willing to commit to ending their opiate addiction. There is no better place on the internet for the common working class opiate addict to slay the beast and find meaning and purpose. For all who read this comment: do what this man (Matt) says and you will get clean. It is that simple. I have been addicted to heroin and morphine for almost two decades. I have overdosed on several occasions, waking up half dead in hospitals, being revived on the floor and miraculously waking up after dropping dead a few times after I pumped that crap into my arms. I know what I am talking about when I say that Jesus Christ, and OAS have the answers you need to get clean. DO IT! GET CLEAN! God Bless!

I began to go off opioids a few weeks ago. Then, I read in a Facebook group about this supplement. (DLPA).
They said it works great for withdrawal if you begin taking it 2 weeks before “jumping.” :\
As you know, I’ve already jumped. Will it take 2 weeks for me to gain the benefits of this supplement? Thank you
Patti
Matt- can you take the DAPL with CalmSupport? Even if safe, is it a wise combination?
Matt Finch
Hi Patti,
I think it’s a match made in Heaven, and a very wise combination. However, depending on what medications you’re on and other factors, it might not be good for you. There are many factors to consider before trying supplements and combinations as well. However, these two are not contraindicated with each other.
Kim
Hi should the dlpa be taken with any sort of other vitamin or multivitamin?
Valerie
Hi, I wanted to ask about a weird thing that happened to me last night. I am tapering Norcos, again, I took a Norco and 1000 mg of DPLA at 3:00 pm. It’s now 12:15 and even with zanaflex and gabapentin I have only slept maybe 2 hours. I even tried another Norco. I don’t feel too bad I guess, but I can’t sleep. I don’t have any benzos just the zanaflex and gabapentin. Did I just take the DLPA too late in the day? I have taken it before many times with no adverse affects or really any affect at all so I’m concerned. Thoughts?
Valerie
I meant to say 12:15 pm the next day, not 12:15 am that night. Thanks.
Matt Finch
Hi Valerie,
If you have taken it many times before with no adverse affects, it sounds like everything should be good. Some people do get stimulated with the supplement, and if it causes insomnia, it’s best to take it morning and mid-morning then stop after that.
Valerie
Thank you. I think it was from taking too late. I dropped down to 500 mgthis morning.
I also got my kratom and tried a little red Bali tonight. I mixed into applesauce and then did toss and wash. So far so good. Just for a week or two then taper off this too and off!
Matt Finch
Awesome!!!
CJ
Hi. I am concerned about research findings reporting that DLPA can 1) exacerbate facial tics (a symptom of tardive dyskinesia); 2) exacerbate anxiety and panic; and 3) contribute to serotonin syndrome for people (such as myself) already taking certain antidepressant medication. Perhaps you’ve addressed these serious issues and can direct me to your discussions of them (?).
Thank you,
CJF
SBG
Hi there. Can you please recommend why not not just taking straight L-DOPA and L-Tyrosine supplements as opposed to the DLPA? Would taking these 2 supplements in addition to DLPA be beneficial, or not recommended? Thank you.
Mary Price - Certified OAS Recovery Specialist
SBG,
Each of these fall along the conversion of phenylalanine >>
l-tyrosine>>l-dopa>>dopamine; however there is good proof that d-phenylalanine also promotes endorphin production. Since the lack of both dopamine and endorphins are the biggest factors in opiate withdrawal, having the additional push from d-phenylalanine to build natural endorphins can be a big help for many. SINCE endorphins are the brains natural pain reliever, dlpa may help with pain relief.
I hope this answers your question. For myself, a combination of dlpa and mucuna prurient (velvet bean-contains l-dopa) worked well.

Hi.. first off this website is truly amazing… I just purchased everything recommended on the website. I am coming off about 3-4 years of daily Kratom use. I went through a 10 day detox, using Subox and colondine. For the first few days I felt ok outside of some depression, but my sleep is definitely affected maybe getting a few hours at most. The worst of my issues is the constant heart palpitations which I think contributes to my lack of sleep as RLS is not too bad. I do have a prescription of Kolonopin and take maybe .5-1mg a day. That does help somewhat but my question is will the DLPA, Mucuna Pruriens and L-Tyrosine help with the “anxiety” feelings. I know I can get through all this if I can just feel more at ease and not accelerate my heart rate. Any help is much appreciated.
Mary Price - Certified OAS Recovery Specialist
Robert,
No taking dlpa, mucuna pruriens, l-tyrosine will not help anxiety, and may actually contribute to it. Axiety is more serotonin related than dopamine related. If you aren’t on ssri meds, you may want to consider the supplement 5htp. The reason this shouldn’t be taken along with ssri’s is because it can cause a syndrome known as serotonin syndrome which can be dangerous.
Being low in serotonin is common during opiate tapering and withdrawal. The amino acid l-theanine (also found in green tea) helps provide a calming effect.
Many have had good luck with phenibut for anxiety (used cautiously) and/or green strains of kratom.

Thanks Mary! so I had started taking 5HTP twice a day about a week or so ago, not sure how much it has been helping. So if I am taking the 5HTP and look to drink more greeen team, is it still OK to take the DLPA? or is it going to make it worse for me. My issue outside of the heart racing is energy and just very week legs. I started going back to to the gym but really need to boost my energy levels. Again thanks and really appreciate the help!

I was in pain management for five years, Oxy, Percocet’s, fentanyl, morphine, all by a doctors orders. I wanted to be “free” so I tried methadone and it was a great and horrible experience at once. It took a year to get to the highest milligrams I was willing to go and a year to get off completely. I am so called “free” now and in my fourth week of that of which I worked so hard for. What I did not expect or didn’t allow my self to expect was the pain that I had that brought me into pain management and surgeries before, is still with me and now has absolute control. The pain still is massive and now has my undivided attention. I have 2 wonderful children I am completely raising alone, a great career, a home cars and all the great things we work so hard for. I take multivitamins, am trying deep breathing, meditation, rhythmic exercise and stretching. I have read every self healing book in Books a Million to no avail. I have no support system or any one to talk to, I am the support system for my little family. I need sound and smart advice and information, my broken body is beginning to get the best of my mental strength. Please help me.

I’m in much the same situation. Years ago I broke vertebrae T6 thru T10 and also C1 & C2, along with ribs and sternum (I’m able to hold off on any surgery for now) and then to add insult to injury, I was diagnosed with MS a few years later. I became dependent, then addicted, to pain management medications also. I went to suboxone treatment for the opiate addiction and was pleased to find that it does also work for pain, even though in the US it is only prescribed for opiate addiction. I was determined to overpower my addiction and the program that I was in was a taper program, so that is what I did, although I was worried that the pain would increase as my dose decreased. I found that even at doses below 1mg, I had good pain relief. I have since tapered off, however if the need would arise where I needed something for pain, using buprenorphine would be my choice. The reason is that when taken right and dosed appropriately, buprenorphine (the active ingredient in suboxone)doesn’t produce a “high” or euphoria. For me, tolerance to “bupe” never was a problem, unlike other opioids. There are buprenorphine medications that are low doses which ARE prescribed for pain.. One is a patch that provides continuous medicine (butrans), the other is a new sublingual pill (belbuca).Belbuca comes in a variety of dosages, and can be taken every 12 hours, providing analgesic pain relief. I myself will be discussing these options with my ortho Dr. For now, the prescription medication Lyrica is pretty effective for me. I also believe that it has made a difference that I have lost weight, do exercises to strengthen my back and have added supplements. DLPA and Turmeric/Curcumin are very beneficial for pain and inflammation-the main cause of pain. There are other prescription options which are non-opioid such as cymbalta , gabapentin & low dose naltrexone which provide pain relief for many. You may also benefit from spinal chord stimulation. Good luck and keep checking back with us. One thing that should be considered is that should you end up on a prescription medication that causes you problems in self- control, you may want to find someone who you trust that can hold onto the meds for you.

Hi there,
I have been on this journey now for eight years. I started using Oxys 8 years ago and went to stop taking them one day and I was incredibly sick. My doctor put me on Methadone and that was the best and worst mistake of my life. Two years on methadone I took the plunge off and have been on Suboxone ever since. I am currently on 2mgs per day. I work full time and have an amazing life and I am so thankful but the one thing that is stopping me from trying to start a family with my husband is the suboxone. I am going to start tapering down as per your blog but I was wondering if you have any other tips for someone who works full time on how to minimize and manage the withdrawal symptoms. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated 🙂
Thanks so much for this blog – it is so hard to find good help.

Hi once again, been a while, well my withdraw has got easyer, I’ve been clean now for seven weeks, been able to reduce my supplements. I have one question that I wonder if u can answer, in your exsperiences is a light skin rash around neck and chest, under arms etc common in cases like mine, I did use a fungal cream and under my arms cleared up but my neck and chest still seem a little red and rashy and have been this way since being on withdraw, your thoughts would be really appreciated, crazy ha, doctors including mine have no idea, seems like they know what tablets to get to hooked on to but have no real idea the side affects or solutions to the said side affects. Lee,
This I have not experienced, nor have I talked to anyone who has had this during opiate withdrawal …hmmmm….makes me wonder. Have you been taking anything that contains a lot of niacin? Possibly even drinking energy drinks with niacin as an ingredient? I know my son was using supplements for weight lifting /body building and niacin caused a “flush” in his face, neck & chest.

Hi Matt, I’ve been following some of these blogs for over a week now & I know without a single doubt that I am ready to be free of my opiate addiction & find ME again! I’ve been taking 3-4 percocets along with 2-5 Norco 10’s daily for years & in the last 4 months have started taking Adderall off & on also just trying to have energy to work & function in what I can only call my life on opiates, because it is really not a life at all. I plan on purchasing your ultimate opioid withdrawal course tomorrow after I fulfill an obligation at my place of employment. Everything I have read so far tells me that I can succeed in getting off these pills & still be able to function without feeling like I’m going to die or go crazy in the process. I’m just thanking God I started following your blogs & reading all these success stories that tell me I CAN AND WILL DO THIS! Thank you so much.

Hi opiate addiction team, I wanted to write this down so anyone reading this who is in my position will have an idea of how I’m making the withdraw a lot easyer.
What I am taking at the moment when it comes to supplements is not having any adverse affects or side affects at present.
I’m taking the fast way of trams, 8 tablets down to 0 in two weeks, I’m off now for 8 days.
First I bought chlorella, Dlpa, l-tyrosine and mucuna pruriens l- dopa. I take 16 chlorella a day every day.
I take 4 Dlpa and 4 l-tyrosine plus 6 l-dopa at 8 am, then I repeat the same doses at 11am then again at 2pm, same doses again at 5pm, and then I take the same doses one hour before bed, I take a hot bath just before bed to stop restless less syndrome and then before I get in bed I take 6 more l- dopa, this helps me sleep 2/3 hours, when I wake, around 3 am, I need another hot bath to stop my legs hurting so I can sleep again, before the bath I take all the doses mentioned, after bath I take a further more 6 l-dopa and this lets me sleep another 2/3 hours, when u wake u can repeat or get up, it’s up to u, then I start the process and at 8 am.
I also will take 6 l-dopa when ever I start to feel like shit as long as it’s at least one hour after my last l-dopa. So it’s been 8 days clean and it’s beginning to ease off, taking in to account I was on trams for 5 years, I feel I’m doing well, I feel no nerve damage, head aces related to over taking tablets, or being sick, after two weeks I will reduce my tablets down by on of each unless I improve better than I think I will reduce even more, but I’m not reducing until I feel OK to do so, I have found that when I felt like I was dieing and couldn’t take any more pain I moved my tablets up to this level and felt a lot better, my rule is u feel fine don’t take the supplements in such hi doses, only when u feel like your dieing. Hope this helps anyone in my position, also a great big thank you to this amazing team who help me get of trams, without them I would still be on them and reducing slowly, which for me is just prolonging the pain. Restless leg sindrome can be help big time by taking a hot bath, this can last ( keep pain down ) a couple of hours, buying a pure juice lolly pop also works well but I don’t eat chocolate or drink coffee, caffeine can make withdraw worse including smoking, if u vape keep the nig level at 0.3. Well done to all who stay clean, remember this, if u can do this then there is nothing u can’t do.

Hi, I once again would like to thank u for all your help, I just wanted to give u an update and to make sure what I’m doing is similar to what u might do in my situation, as u know I’ve been tapering off tramadol, I have been getting off as fast as possible without it killing me, I’m now trying today not to take any trams, yesterday I was on 3/4 and I’ve been reducing every couple of days, so bloody hard.
I use now 3 Dlpa 4 times a day, 3 l-tyros 4 times a day and mucuna l-dopa 6 every 2/3hours even through the night, can’t sleep otherwise, what’s your thoughts on this please, understanding your not a doctor but just your thoughts on my actions would be great. Thank u again.

Lee,
If it’s working for you then that’s fantastic! That’s the purpose of this whole blog;to find a proven method that works for you! And since everyone is different one that works for you might not work for another. For me, those dopamine producing supplements mentioned, have a tendency to keep me awake, but obviously not you. It sounds like you’re doing great! Congratulations!

Hi Matt, not sure if u got my last message, anyway first I would like to thank u very much for all your help and also a big thank u to all your staff who help people like me.
Have one last question if that’s ok.
If u was going through serious tram withdraw and was trying to reduce from 3 then 2 etc and u had Dlpa, L-Tyrosine and l-dopa, how many of each would u take?
I know every body is different but would help if I had a base line idea.
Once again thank u for all your support and help.

Lee,
First, I’m sorry it took awhile to answer this. I believe that I thought it to be a duplicated comment. Again, sorry. But to answer your question, each person IS different. If it were me, I would start with just adding a little of one and then the other. That way I could increase it as tolerated.

Hi again, thanks again for all your help, I have take up all your advice and take all the vits needed, sunflower, Dlpa, etc.
It’s helping but I’m pushed to take more Dlpa, i.e 8000 mg a day, being as this paw is so hard to cope with, do u feel I’m being silly.
Please note, I know your not a doctor so this is not a question that needs a doctors answer, it’s, have u ever gone over the 6000 mg mark a day when u was going through withdraw?
Cheers Matt

Lee,
That has to be an individual decision. As for me, I would choose to add another dopamine producing supplement. (l-tyrosine, l-dopa, mucuna pruriens)

Hi Matt, doing a great thing here.
I’m getting off tramadol and it’s been hell, which is an understatement, I’m trying Dlpa, I’m on 2 x 500 mg 3 times a day, and feel a touch better, I know your not a doctor and can not give advise in this manner but if this was you getting off tramadol would u feel OK increasing the Dlpa? I know u said what doses u can use but is tramadol the same as opiates, even thou it’s not classed as such it still has all the same effects. Your thoughts would be great, thanks Matt.

Lee,
Yes, if it were me, I’d try increasing it . Of course if it made me jittery, then I’d drop it back down.

Hi, been on tramadol now for about 3/4 years and I’m starting to use Dlpa, I was on 5/6 tablets in the week and 8 at the weekend, I’m trying to drop down to 2/3 a day all week and now using Dlpa, now u say using 1000/2000 mg 3 times a day when pinning ( going through serious withdraw ) is ok, I read that going over 1500 mg a day can cause many serious problem even death, of cause this I get of the net so it’s hard to know who to believe, please are u right that I’ll be ok on such a hi amount of Dlpa, it’s my second day on 3 tramadol a day and its hell, I did take Dlpa on my second day, 4 x 500 mg first then 3, and then 2 in the evening, it did make a difference, didn’t feel no where near as bad, still felt like shit, but not like I’m dying.
I’m a little worried about taking such hi amounts of Dlpa, what’s your thoughts please.
Thank u for your time.
Lee.

Lee,
Many use this dose of dlpa, especially when fighting opiate withdrawal. Some do say that a higher dose of it can cause them to be jittery, but I’ve never heard of an overdose on it. Building up to a higher dose is always recommended though, because some simply won’t need as much.

I need to get off kratom and came across your article for dlp. I have tried and can’t really need some help. If I start taking this, how do I then get off dlp? Do I just stop taking it with no withdrawals?
Thank you
Linda
I have been taking Kratom and it worked for the withdrawals from narcotic medicine but I am still dysfunctional. Can the DLPA and the L-tyrosine be taken forever to keep the dopamine and serotonin levels always. I have been on so many medications for anxiety and depression and the side effects over ride the benefits. I was told the squid oil is good for dopamine also tumeric/Curcumin. Please advise. I cannot live like this anymore, alway in pain physically and mentally. I have tried everything. I am only on Klonopin for my severe anxiety now. Please help
Hopeful
I have been in subixone for 5 years. I only take 1/4 piece of a strip per day. I want to stop this and I purchased the dlpa that was recommended. My question is, I have been in a prescription antidepressant for several years (Fluoxetine 20mg, 1 a day). Can the dlpa be taken with the Fluoxetine? Some say no so I wanted to ask before I mess up!
michele
Does the Brand matter or have you found a “better” brand among the choices out there for DLPA? Solaray is pictured but not sure if that was just an example pic or if you have a preference to that brand?
Jenny
I have been using suboxone for two years. I tapered off to .25mg and then .12 mgs and then I switched to kratom for two weeks. I don’t really like kratom it feels like a dirty high to me. So, I wanted to get off that and I just took my first 1000 mg DLPA today. I feel awesome and I am not even craving the kratom like I would normally be. THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought Country Life DLPA caps which took about two weeks to get to me or I would have taken them sooner. I feel like I could cry right now. Thank you so much for this information. You are doing a world of good here. All physicians should be made aware of this and they should use it to get people off drugs instead of suboxone. But, then they wouldn’t be able to make their money would they?
Kristi
I’m in the same boat you were. I’ve been on subs for 6 years. I tapered to 1.5mg and just had enough so I stopped taking it. I started taking kratom. While it helps a lot if feel a dirty or really medicinal high. I hate it. But it’s keeping me somewhat sane. I’m about to order some Dlpa. Hoping it helps me too.
Fred
I never, ever felt ‘craving’ for Kratom. Certainly, not like those insane synthetic opiates. It was much more matter -of-fact, like ‘my pain is back, I might need a bit more kratom’. I do agree with you that its like a ‘dirty high’. I mean, there is no high at all for me, just pain relief. But the actual process of consuming some concoction that tastes like dirt isn’t pleasant whatsoever. I do feel it is a tremendous stepping off tool if used appropriately though
Brooke
Hey, Matt! Hope all is well. Can you take Neurontin along with DLPA? Just curious. Thanks!?
Matt Finch
Hi Brooke!
I’ve never read about any contraindications with the two.

WOW where do I start, I’m a father of 2 kids and i work graveyards 8-12 hours a day sometimes 7 days a week. I was on 125 mg of liquid methadone for 4 years, I got sick of passing out mid standing up or mid conversation, so I tapered down from 125 mg to 38 mg, on the 14th of this month my mind was made up. I want off this god forsaken CRAP! unfortunately i didn’t have the time to to detox because i need to provide for my family. Well now the 14th of this month I started my 14 day vacation to kick this crap and its bad! I came across your website and it gave me hope! I bought a bottle of L-Tyrosine and DLPA and 5-htc. im on my 7th day of detox in my own home and my fiance is caring for me the best she can but my question is Can I take L-Tyrosine, DLPA and 5-HTC together throughout the day? Oh and Im basically kicked off the methadone program because i missed 3 days in a row, so no going back now.

Hi Matt,
I’ve been on us ozone for 5 years. Tapered down and quit 6 days ago, day 4 and 5 being the worst. I found your article late last night. I woke up going straight to the vitamin store to get DL PA. I have a fairly simple question for you. There were two brands, the Solaray one that you pictured above, and then a Solgar brand which says it’s “free form” and is gluten wheat and dairy free.
I ended up buying the second, Solgar brand as it was more capsules and a slightly better deal. Is this OK? The guy at the register said they were the exact same thing.
Please let me know if I need to go back for the other brand , or If this one is okay.
Thank you!!
Roy

Does the suboxin have to be completely out of your system before you start these. I have been on 4mg a day for 2years and in a few days I’m just going to stop taking the suboxin. I’m so tired of being on something to feel normal.
Rocco
I’ve been on DLPA for 2 weeks now, I’m recovering from Heroin addiction and we all know that’s a very power drug. When I got off they put me on suboxone for 3 days, the first day was 6mg, second day 4, and the third 2 and the detox hospital sent me home. I have to admit if suboxone is taken properly and not as day in day out maintain drug it really works. So when I got home I had slight physical withdrawals but it was pretty smooth and then came the hard part, post acute withdrawal symptoms which is anxiety, hot flashes, lack of motivation, and soreness. So I decided to do some research and ended up running in to this guys article and I said to myself “what the hell it might work” so I went to my local vitamin store and bought a bottle of DLPA and a bottle of fish oil capsules. I have to admit the first day I was disappointed because I wanted it to work right away but gradually as the third day rolled around and after taking the DLPA and fish oils 3 times a day I felt it starting to work and now I’m on day 17 of sobriety and I’m back at work as a deisel mechanic and though I’m not a 100 percent yet I can honestly say I’m a good 80 percent and that’s all I can ask for. Thank you so much for your article it really helped me and possibly saved my life and now I can work and provide for my family again.

Dear all!
I’ve just received DLPA & L-Tyrosine by the post and IT really WORKS, easing down the horrible and disgusting withdrawals that just didn’t seem to have an end (90 days of tapering now); 1 hour after taking 1 of each pill I started feeling a little warm and much more relaxed and well in my head and my leg muscles started feeling less painful. I am very exited as it seems to work already so I, hopefully, can eliminate the last damned ½ a mg.
I’ve been on Subutex for 15 years (since a massive inoperable discus prolapse in my lower bag, long story) tapering from 6 mg. per day to ½ a mg. per day (for one month now) tolerating the horrible side effects and withdrawals. 90 days ago I started tapering down 1 mg./week, from the initial dose on 6 mg. Subutex/day until reaching ½ mg. Subutex/day. The reason I started tapering down was that I got constantly ill with pneumonia, the flu, colds and so on. Enough was enough and I decided to fight the demons that have controlled my lift for the last many years.
In the beginning it was relatively easy descending from 6 mg. going down 1 mg./week (to 5 mg. Subutex/day in 7 days); but the real pain started when going down from 2 mg. Subutex/day to 1½ mg. Subutex/day. I talked it through with my doctor and I was at first given 100. tablets of Nozinan which took the top peaks without taking away the creepy muscle twitches (some days I took up to 8 pills á 5 mg.). Today I was given Risolid (24 pills on 10 mg.) PN, BUT I just took my DLPA & L-Tyrosine which really took so much of the extremely negative and terrible withdrawal symptoms.
NB! I wanna say BIG thanks to the author of this site – it’s true and there is hope!!!
KEEP ON FIGHTING – Calm support or the things I just started on WORKS!!!
Never give up – the reward is right away.
Best regards
Anders, Copenhagen Denmark

Matt Finch
Yes you sure can.

I used kratom to get rid of pain medicine and now I’m addicted to kratom …. Works wonderful for pain and energy but I can afford it
I do not know what to now ? Please help me
Abbie
Hey Norma!
I was in the same boat as you! I used Kratom to come off of a 6 year suboxone run and…just like “that” Kratom was banned in my state! I was having horiible kratom withdrawals but NO MORE all because of the d-phenylalanine!
I was extremely skeptical but very pleasantly surprised (and relieved).
It worked immediately for me!
Kelly Devine
I also used kratom to help my chronic pain and ended up coming off 13 Rx including pain killers but reading I’m seeing it helps with energy I’m 18 yrs in recovery being off all the Rx is a God send for addicts but can it help my sleepiness? I have narcolepsy the kind that you experience an extreme emotion then you feel like you’ve not slept in 72 yrs this being after I woke from a 9-12 hr sleep But for sleep I use skullcap, catnip and Valerian root works like a CHARM

I’ve been on 2mg Suboxone sublingual tabs for over 8 years now. My attempts to get off this medication have been extremely rough. Even tapering is a complete nightmare. I always wind up back on the medication because I am unable to function without it. I recently made up my mind to finally rid myself of this beast forever and went to my local health food market after reading your blog. The nutritionist on staff was very helpful in explaining DLPA and L-Tyrosine and their effects on something called stacking. The next morning, I took 500 mg of each supplement. Like so many other addicts, I was skeptical about using anything “vitamin” related to treat PAWS. What I can tell you is I have not taken Suboxone in 2 days. I am able to go to work and focus on my job without by brain constantly thinking about dosing. I have energy, and my mood is incredibly positive. Plus, my body is not aching or feeling the insomnia as with previous attempts to get off the Suboxone. Whether its the combination of both the supplements, or just one, or the other, I’m no longer craving sugar either. So, thank you for putting this information out there. These supplements are not expensive and fit anyone’s budget. I really think if someone is really ready to kick drugs, this is the way to go.
Anders, DK
Fantastic and big congratulations!!! I just bought the same experiencing exactly the same.. I was on Subutex 15 years in the first 5 years on 16 mg/day tapering to 6 mg/day. Gosh, nasty side effects, pure evil subs! It’s fantastic I just got lots of my energy back..
Have a great day.
Best regards
Anders

Way to go! I am in the same boat. I’m officially on week 5. The above mentioned stack was a godsend along with 5-htp about an hour before bed. My first few weeks I also used immodium. That was what really helped with the physical withdrawals. Without too many boring details, from what I understand immodium has opiates in it that do not cross the BBB like the ones we were on so no euphoria but what it does do is fill the opiate receptors that went haywire in our bodies when we stopped feeding our bodies the opiates. So from experience if you are having difficulty even on the dlpa try immodium. I started with 12 a day then took two away every other day until I got down to 4 then I took one away every day. I felt great with that and the dlpa, but still felt the occasional fatigue so every other day I combined hordenine with the dlpa instead of l-tyrosine and that was the trick. The hordenine seemed to last longer in terms of energy and from what I understand it allows the dlpa to work better.
Sorry for being so long winded, I just remember feeling so scared of how I had started to feel a couple of days clean as that’s when the hell started to begin until I did this. Just wanted to give a little advise just in case. Best of luck! You should be very proud of yourself! The decision to stop is so hard and half the battle. Hope to see an update on your progress.
Kristen
Where do I get the 5-htp and the other stuff. I know where to get immodium. I’m scared BC I have a three year old and I work 40 hours a week. I can’t miss work BC I’m a single mom
Shane
Be very careful with the Immodium, (Loperamide). Believe me, it can be just as addictive as the opiates. I got into big trouble with it, mega dosing @ 120+ pills every 3 days. That is 240 mg. At that dose, I had super energy, and I don’t care what anyone says, but there was euphoria. I couldn’t stop. Easy to get and very cheap, like $5 a bottle. Anyways, stay away from Loperamide, (Immodium). It’s bad news.
Kristi
I took around 12 imodium pills once to help with withdrawal. My ears started ringing badly. I could barely hear anything else because the ringing was so loud. Scared the shit out of me.
Leta
Is this safe while pregnant? I’m sure it’s obviously safer than the drug it will be replacing, but still would like a definite answer.
Matt Finch
This supplement, according to articles I’ve read online, is contraindicated for pregnant women. However, I know someone that asked her OBGYN about this and they said it was fine for her to take while pregnant. She was happy because the supplement really helps her a lot since she got off Suboxone a few months ago.
Nicole
Hello,
Are the your dosage suggestions correct.. 1,000-2,000 three times a day?
The suggested dosage on the bottle of DLPA I bought says take 1 pill in the morning and 1 in the afternoon on an empty stomach. They are 500mg so that would be 1000 in a day.
Thanks!
Matt Finch
Hey Nicole,
The dosages I wrote about in this article I learned from Dr. Charles Gant in his book End Your Addiction Now: The Proven Nutritional Supplement Program That Can Set You Free. Please ask your health care provider what dosage you should take. Best of luck to you!
Laura
Hey Matt, I just found this site today and I’m wondering where to purchase this DLPA? I’m in Ontario,Canada. Thanks so much
Matt Finch
I’m in the United States, where it is available at vitamin and health food stores. I don’t know where to buy it in Canada.
Joe
Hi Laura, thought I would chime in as I am from Ontario as-well. SW Ontario to be specific. You can buy it on Amazon Canada, but it will get costly. So I purchase them(meaning DLPA plus some other aminos, support supplements and nootropics) from the US at powdercity.com(Not shilling, it is very reputable and popular website, you can look up in Google), and have had no problems getting it across the border, as it is legal here, they usually come in about a week. It is much cheaper as you buy it in bulk powder, and use scoops to measure the dose rather than pills(I scoop the powder directly into a cup, add water, and mix in some of that Dasani flavoring liquid, or crystal light). You might find some other things that help as well such as l-Tyrosine, ALCAR(for clean energy/remove cognitive impairment), Agmatine, Choline source, etc.
One thing I have found that works unbelievably well with DLPA for withdrawal is Agamatine. It is an NMDA antagonist, so it both potentates the dose and reduces tolerance to opiates/opiods, and it also reduces pain on it’s own. It works exceptionally well and is being used by many for this purpose. Though I would not recommend it if you are not 100% ready to come off, as even at tapered doses, you can still get a glow, and wan’t to abuse agmatine(it doesn’t work like that though). I say this as a warning, as I am tapering off methadone, even at a dose of 95mg when I was stable I did not have a dopamine glow from methadone and still had joint pain, though now at 26mg, it can give powerful analgesia, and a bit of a glow. This is due to the mechanism of the NMDA blockade. You can see why many current addicts would find this useful, though it is very commonly used for it’s tolerance lower abilities during tapering.
Just thought I’d help out another fellow Ontarian. If you have any questions, feel free to write me back.
Colie
What was your regime for coming off the mdone. I’m on 110mg daily and want to start tapering.

I am going through PAWS and the weak, depressed, no energy feeling that drags on is debilitating. I read your article about DLPA and have seen other stuff about it on the net so decided to try it. I felt like it was the hardest thing to even lift my head off of the couch then I only took 5oo mgs and it completely turned it all around in like 30 minutes. Just one pill gave me tons of energy. Everybody is different though so most ppl probably need more but this stuff is just flat out incredible. Thank you Matt for putting up this article. Great info!!
Matt Finch
What a great and fast response to DLPA! Congrats Danielle, and thanks for sharing your experience. I too respond well and fast to this supplement. Glad it helped! Take care 🙂
BG
Hi, Just wondering if DLPA safe to take with L Tyrosine, GABA and Cortisol Manager?
Matt Finch
Every person is unique. I would be able to take all of those together just fine. Please ask your health care provider if this combination would be ok for you.
Kellie
Hi there thank you So much for the information it is very helpful. I am currently jumping off 4mg of suboxone after 3 years with my doctor. My last day is January 14th. Do you recommend waiting until I am in a yet withdrawal to start dlpa, or any other opiate withdrawal supplement? Thanks!!
Matt Finch
Hi Kellie,
Based on the research I’ve done, it appears that DLPA may offer benefit while tapering off opioids, since according to pubmed it is an opioid potentiator. And the makers of opiate withdrawal supplements say to start taking it a few days to a week before coming off completely to get your body primed for the withdrawal. It’s always necessary to ask your doctor about appropriate dosing though.
H
Hi, been tapering heroin and taking methadone, is it safe to begin supplementing DLPA now? How about adding 5-HTP & free form amino acid blend? Any risk of serotonin syndrome? Also have somewhat high blood sugar. We will ask the doctor if heroin & methadone contradict with amino acid supplements, but you seem much more knowledgable than him! Also agree that “The Mood Cure” is an excellent resource regarding neurotransmitters. Thank you!
Mission possible
I’ve been reading that DLPA can curb appetite. Is this true? Because this scares me from taking it to balance the neurotransmitters in my brain
Matt Finch
It doesn’t do this for me. But I can see how it might for some.
Ross Brockway
Thank you for this amazing information! i spent my early 20’s in full on addiction to I.V. Dilauded, then after years, finally started using heroin b/c it was cheaper and more abundant, then after literally 75+ at home and inpatient detoxes. I got on 24 mg. of Suboxone, for 5 years then,,to 8 mg. Subutex, then finally Great Spirit Intervened and I was forced to go cold turkey off the Subutex . After 2 weeks of hell , I found Keaton shots at the local store and that helped me immensely . Throughout all this time,I mangled to work at a few Health Food stores, which allowed me to try various experiments like the one above. And , all that just to say, that the DLPA regimen worked the best for me , mores so than any other way. I wish I’d had this article to guide me with dose, but I would recommend d to everyone this seemingly simple ,cheap way out of hell. It works, of course you have to want it to, but otherwise, this info. Is a live changer!

Hi I am currently taking 8mg of Subutex and 4mg of Klonopin daily, I am working with a physcologist to taper off one at a time, first subutex. I was wondering if the things you mentioned above that help with the withdrawals can be taken with Klonopin, or marijuana… I want to be off the meds ASAP but when I’ve detoxed before, or tried tapering alone-the withdrawals are so bad I never want to go back again personally, and I’m also job hunting at the moment…Ahh-I feel hopeless! Which then comes the depression!

Dude you’re awesome thanks for this article, Currently going through Heroin Withdrawals 4th day sober I haven’t been able to sleep at all. I’m going to the vitamin store tomorrow to get some of these sups.
Currently I’m taking Kratom it’s a herbal medicine from Thailand it’s very helpful to get through withdrawals.
Matt Finch
I’m glad you found value in the article. And I’m also happy that you found an herb that is helping you. Kratom is something I’ve written a few articles on. Take care.

Matt Finch,
You are the man. this article is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’ve been wrestling with this decision for weeks on whether to implement DLPA or L-Tyrosine for my PAWS related issues. It’s very clear to me now that the DLPA is the better choice because of its reputation for treating pain. navigating Amino Acid Therapy and making these decisions can be confusing because DLPA and L-Tyrosine are similar, yet very different in a couple of important ways. once again, great article. very glad I found it. what foods do you recommend for the typical recovering heroin addict? it says here you’re an Advanced Food-Based Healer^

To read about foods for improving brain chemistry, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the following book:

Hey matt, just making you aware of what I’m sure is just a type-o.
You said l-phenylalanine is a nonessential amino, when it is actually an essential amino.
Part of my plan for long term, that is if I can succeed in making it past wd is to use an essential amino product as tryptophan is also an essential amino.
I plan on using eEAA, l-tyrosine, l-glutamine and probably gaba, as my rregular supps along with a good diet and exercise.
Matt Finch
Thanks for pointing out that type-o Brett. I can’t believe I had it as a nonessential shaking my head! What is the eEAA you speak of? I don’t think I’ve heard of that one.
brett
Join the discussion
lol…just reread my post, that was my type-o.
I put an extra e in there man, supposed to be eaa, essential amino acid.
Matt Finch
Ha!! You’re awesome Brett! And amino acid therapy is very popular indeed. Sounds like you’ve done the research and have a plan of attack.
Matt Finch
I love your attitude and strong mindset! Good luck and I wish you the best of luck!!!!!

My husband is getting off Suboxone, after only 4 months you wouldn’t think it’d be that hard. It’s horrible!! He started with the DLPA today. I don’t know if he’ll make it thru the night. He’s jerking and screaming and is looking to me to find something to make it bettu. How frequently can he take the DLPA? I just read that he can take 2-4 of the 500 mg capsules 3 times a day. How long does it take to show some aid? He’s beginning to seriously scare me.
Matt Finch
Since Suboxone withdrawal can be so horrific, it often takes a lot more than just one supplement. Please refer to the following article for additional tips:

Matt I’m in treatment my names Shawn I’m trying to get off subs I’m taking probably a MG a day but then the next day I get rocked with cold and hot flashes and sweaty Ness will the dlpa help with that I’ve been on bout that dose for 3 weeks and 4 MG for 2 weeks before that.
Amanda
How low of a dose was he on before he jumped off? Can you get suboxone and just give him some dust? He shouldn’t jump off unless he was taking dust for several weeks and able to sleep. I did it and was able to sleep . I had minor width drawl but nothing extreme such as rls pain can’t lay still constantly stretching in bed and tossing around.. I had none of that. Just manageable symptoms! I was on suboxone for 2 years and methadone 2 yrs right before suboxone. Email me if you need and maybe I can help! But again if he can’t sleep then he came off either too quick or didn’t taper down low enough before he stopped. I found once you are stable on dust.. then you take one day at a time where you take nothing. Allow 4 days in between each day you drop off for your body to level out.
Robin
Didn’t understand the dust comment or the last bit about nothing than 4 days ? Can you please explain ?
Matt Finch
Robin I believe she means “dust” as in if one were to grind a Suboxone tablet into powder, then only use a tiny bit of the powder, like almost nothing. Then she is saying to take that small amount, then wait 4 days, then take another small amount of powder, then wait another 4 days.
amanda
Hey sorry for the Confusion. What I found with decreasing using a 2mg suboxone pill it can be very hard to decrease when you get down to a low dose. I find the lowest you can cut the pill is into 8 pieces. So if your down to 1/8 a day of a 2mg tablet and you have allowed yourself to stabilize at that particular dose for 4 days in a row without feeling any severe width drawl then I would take dust (smaller then 1/8 of a pill) .. so if your at 7 days in a row taking 1/8 of a 2mg . And your stable… then take out one day that your at the 1/8 and just take dust that day. So 6 days at 1/8 then 1 day at dust. Then stabilize for 4 days before making any changes to your dose with regard to decreasing another day. Remain at the same dose for 4 days before decreasing each time you decrease. If you can get through 4 days at a particular dose (able to sleep at night) then you should be good to decrease . One day at a time. Continue on that schedule u til your at a full 7 days taking dust. Then when you have stabilized on dust drop out a day where you will take nothing for that day. So 6 days on dust and 1 day without anything. Stabilize for 4 days on that schedule and then take out another day.
This is what worked for me. It may not work for everyone but it’s worked for me and my husband (so far) and countless others from research I have done.
Hope this helps!
amanda
One last thing … sometimes at the very end where your down to dust it is best to give yourself longer to stabilize on the dust before taking out days where you will take nothing for a day. Just to make sure you will do it with the least amount of suffering possible. It’s upto the person and how they feel. No less then 4 days but probably no more then a couple weeks either. Because your body can get used to the low dose and it can feel strong again in your system and you want to Completely avoid feeling any effects (euphoria drowsiness) from the suboxone. It is only there to ward off the physical width drawl. Chances are if you are starting to feel normal or starting to get drowsy you have stabilized for too long. It’s good to keep a balance but to always have your dose at **just*** enough. It’s a protection for us addicts. If you starve out that addiction feeling long enough you won’t crave it anymore. When your body gets a taste of the euphoria or drowsiness from suboxone it can re ignite the beast of addiction !

Question: I am about 27 weeks pregnant –have lupus, arthritis, and a hernia in my groin.. I have been taking Percocet on and off for about two years. I never felt as if I was dependent on the medication until now. My doctor has not been prescribing it with the very strict rules on narcotics– so I get it from a friend — 5mg Percocet– BUT I have to take anywhere from 3-6 pills for me to not feel crappy.. If it has been a bit since I have taken them.. 3 will work.. But if I am having a bad day.. It’s raining.. Lupus is flared up or any of the above.. And have taken them than I have to take about 5 or 6 and realize now that if they are present sometimes I will reach for them just out of instinct because I stay in pain in some way shape or form. How do I safely stop taking them.. Not get ill..or just get to where I’m taking ONE 5mg pill MAYBE two only for severe pain and nothing beyond that
Matt Finch
I would love to help you, though discontinuing drugs while pregnant and with lupus is different than without those conditions.

I sincerely hope that things all came together right for you in the end dear. I have some experience with opiate use and pregnancy and I felt for you reading this because it sounds like you were in such beginning stages of naming and understanding your addiction and that in combination with being pregnant and expecting a tiny human and all that comes with that, especially when addiction is involved, it would take a much longer entry to put into words how trying and “difficult” the experiences surrounding this can be when you are trying to protect your child and ensure their safety during and after pregnancy (often times mothers are dealing with hospital policy and state child welfare agencies after birth, including in cases when they have sought treatment while pregnant and are doing well or are genuinely trying hard to do the right thing and get the help they need, I hope you were treated with compassion) I hope you were able to get the help and information you needed and experienced some compassion along the way and I hope you have found some genuine and helpful support in treatment for addiction and for your health. It takes so much courage to seek help and information, even more so when you are pregnant and plan to give birth (or after going through a pregnancy and birth). Always know it’s never to late to seek help with your addiction and health and start a recovery process. Sending Hope and Love (no matter where you find yourself today. But I truly hope you find yourself in a good place!)

Matt Finch
What is the name and brand of the passion flower product you have?

First, thank you Matt for your passion in helping others with this. I have two questions. 1) what should the dlpa dosage be when using the tapering process? ( the same?) 2) what do you recommend for restless cramping legs? I have tried Valium. It was torture. Made me so tired but couldn’t sleep due to the leg cramp pain. Thought maybe I was dehydrated. Tried extra water. I have used tyrosine plus and dlpa and have definitely felt its effect and thank you immensely for posting here. I’m wondering if you can help with the rls I have so I can finally be tramadol free. For all tramadol users I can assure after being in withdrawal several times, tyrosine/dlpa works and anyone suffering absolutely must go that route if you really want to reduce/eliminate the suffering from withdrawal. It works for sure! I was a total skeptic so go for it. Just need rls assistance and mind wandering help to sleep at night. Thanks again.
Matt Finch
Hi Pat,
Thank you for the kind words. As for your questions:
1) Same dosage for tapering, acute withdrawal, and post-acute symptoms. However, everyone is different, so it’s all about seeing what works best for your individual biochemical needs. Thus, having an intuitive relationship with your body is paramount.
2) Please read the following article on RLS from opiate withdrawal:
How To Stop Restless Legs From Opiate Withdrawal
And thanks so much for sharing your amazing benefits of tyrosine/dlpa with the other readers. This will be helpful for them to read, I’m sure. Much gratitude and best of luck to you Pat.

I’m happy that most posters are doing well in their suboxone withdrawal but I’m in day 17 and still having a pretty hard time. I tapered, used supplements, benzos, Kratom, etc. but sleeping, akisthia, nausea, and headaches are still problems. Psychologically I’ve stayed remarkably positive. I bought the recommended SOLARAY DLPA early on but the label says take one 500mg capsule daily and that’s what I was doing. It looks like you’re recommending up to 12 times that daily dose. Is there a downside or adverse side-effect of such large doses? Some warning sign to watch for? Continue the large dose through PAWS?
Thanks.
Matt Finch
Hey Charlie,
I got this dosing protocol from the following book:
End Your Addiction Now: The Proven Nutritional Supplement Program That Can Set You Free
It’s written by Dr. Charles Gant, an addiction specialist that used orthomolecular medicine to get over an 80% success rate with his patients. He recommends up to 2,000 mg of DLPA 3x per day for individuals trying to get off opiates. He recommends using this dosing regimen for up to 3-6 months after quitting for good.
The contraindications with a big dose is people with high blood pressure issues. Also, high doses can make you tan more when you go out in the sun, because it increases the production of melanin…so people with disorders that shouldn’t be getting more melanin production should use caution or stay away.
Anonymous
Thanks for the quick reply. My normal morning BP is 110/70 and pulse 54 but since I started the various new supplements, I’ve been checking BP twice daily in case one or a combo of these supplements triggers a spike. I’ll have to read up on the melanin disorder but it’s not something a doc has ever mentioned.
Speaking of combination effects, there might be a concern about large doses of DLPA plus the Mucuna Pruriens supplement. Your graphic shows that DLPA is an L-DOPA precursor, but Mucuna contains L-DOPA, the actual chemical itself. Just on general biochemical principles, it seems that providing raw materials such as DLPA to the body’s chemical factory is safer than providing an “output” chemical such as L-DOPA — give the machinery a chance to make something or not based on need. L-DOPA is indeed an Rx medication with a substantial platter of negative effects and risks along with its benefits.
Matt Finch
Also, on a side note…celery contains phthalides, chemicals that dilate the blood vessels and act as a diuretic, actions found in certain blood pressure-lowering drugs. The man that created the Food-Healing system that I teach recommends eating 4-6 stacks of celery per day as a natural way to reduce BP.
Chris
Just wanted to chime in here for a sec. I was using suboxone for 3-4 years daily, approximately 10mg a day. As of last Wednesday I have not used and have not felt one single withdrawal symptom. What I did was take a bunch of GABA 750, L tyrosine and fish oil along with Imodium. I am taking these several times daily along with Hylands restful legs. I’ve gone through the withdrawals of Suboxone before and it was awful. I feel amazing after 7 days clean.
Matt Finch
Great story Chris! Thanks so much for sharing your incredible results using these remedies, and congratulations on your 7 days of clean time. Also, really great to read that you feel this good so soon. Take care.

My plans r to taper off the methadone but I’m very very scared of the wd’s . I would like to switch over to suboxon. My question is could I start taking theDLPA now while still on the 95mgs of methadone? Would it help me to start lowering my dose if I’m taking it at same time I’m coming down????
Matt Finch
Hi Stacey,
This is an important idea you just brought up, and one that I’m going to add to this article, or possibly create an additional article based on this. Since I just read a study a few weeks ago, I learned that DLPA is an opioid “potentiator”, which means that taking DLPA helps you to get more out of your methadone dose, as well as other opioids.
Check out this awesome study:
DL-phenylalanine markedly potentiates opiate analgesia – an example of nutrient/pharmaceutical up-regulation of the endogenous analgesia system
So to answer your question: YES!!! DLPA can help you taper off methadone or any other opioid. It can also help people using opioids for pain management use less narcotics daily. Pretty cool. Take care Stacey.
Barbara
Same dosage as for acute withdrawal? And then continue the 1000 – 2000mg through the acute phase? Is there any problem with that high a dose over time? I’m still tapering my methodone and expect when I stop the acute withdrawal period will be 2-3 weeks, right?
Matt Finch
Same dosage across the board for acute withdrawal, post-acute, for tapering off etc. Usually there are no problems because of such a deficiency, but watch out for high blood pressure or tanning of the skin when in the sun a lot. I got really tan because I surfed a lot, and this supplement increases melanin production. Plus, people that already have high blood pressure might do better from lower dosages of DLPA. And methadone withdrawal symptoms usually last a few weeks, though sometimes longer.

You say it helps you get more out of your methadone ?? !! More or deplete it. I been look for ways for many years now,to come off methadone without or little WDs . And I found that their are other foods and drugs that will skyrocket your daily methadone for a few hours. But, your not getting more ,your depleting it. And hours before you have to take your next dose, your going into full blown WITHDRAWALS !!!! And having to take you next dose hours or maybe even almost a day be for you have to. Mean if you are some one who gets take home and you dose at 7:00am . And than well say you take this DLPA thinking your get more. And you feel grate all is good most of the day. But, around dinner time thing don’t look or feel so good. That’s because instead of your methadone dosage lasting 24hrs to 48hrs like it’s designed to do. The food or drugs that you used to help you get more out of your dosage. It did that alright ,it gave it to you all at once and depleted it before it design time. And that’s why when it’s fully depleted your in full blown WITHDRAWALS. .!!!! Instead of that slow on coming feeling that it time to dose again,it been 24hr/27hr/30hrs ((how ever long you wait between dosages))… I’m not saying this DLPA is going to do this. But, BE-A-WARE that this can happen. And always look into all you can when someone says take this your get more out of your daily dosage of what ever your taking (methadone, etc) I don’t know about you. But, I didn’t fight for years to get my life in order and even know I’m stuck taking methadone every morning. I 100% clean of everything else. Including alcohol, and That lets me have the time & energy to focus on my family… Instead of founding something, getting the money to get that something , getting high , and doing it all over again as soon as that something ran out ! ! ! It also instead of having X-amount of problems that goes with ushering .I down to only one problem as far as being stuck in the drug addict world. And that’s getting off methadone without the sickness & withdrawals…. And I think I found the solution IBOGAINE but, that is for another page & talk… I hope that none of this is the case for DLPA. I hope that it does everything I have read about it on here… Good luck to all, and I hope the knowledge of depletion will find you and be useful….Hey Matt Finch please, don’t take this post the wrong way. I’m not out to discredit anyone . I just don’t want to see people who have been fighting for their life for (2months or 20 years ) get messed up because of a over looked thing like this.We are all dealing with enough BS without something like this that is easily looked up and or a few emails to the right people to find out. (Which I’ll be working on later)so please, let me know if you know of what I’m talking about. And if this may or may not be the case for DLPA.. I would love to start using it … Thank you all and hold your head high, stay strong and never give up the fight to live your life free ….David Horton

David,
When the article refers to dlpa as helping one to get more out of, or “potentiate” it, that is referring to the increase in dopamine released in the brain, not an increase of the analgesic or euphoric results that occur in relation to the opiate receptors. Therefore taking dlpa doesn’t deplete the methadone’s effectiveness.
When an opiate is taken the brain releases bursts of dopamine resulting in the brain creating extra dopamine receptors for these outpouring of bursts. As these receptors begin to empty wd symptoms will begin. When someone is tapering their dose of opiates, these bursts of dopamine are smaller leaving the large amount of these receptors with less dopamine. Taking a dopamine producing supplement works by making up for the loss.
If you’re tapering, this can help keep the sluggish feelings, rls, tiredness, depression that can happen as the dose of opiates drop.
My recommendation for tapering is to start a dopamine producing amino a few days before the droparty and increase it each time you lower your dose. If withdrawal symptoms occur at any drop, you can always take more of the supplement to provide the need for more dopamine.
If you’re able to find a good balance between dropping the opiate dose and providing dopamine with a dopamine producing supplement, the withdrawal symptoms caused by the lack of dopamine will make tapering and eventually, detoxification, much easier.
Dopamine producing supplements (dlpa [dl-phenylalanine ], l-tyrosine, l-dopa, mucuna pruriens) need “cofactor” nutrients in order to do their job. Make sure that you eat ealthy> protein, dark green leafy vegs, dark chocolate, nuts, seeds, bananas, avacodoes, green tea.: are great suggestions. You should also take a good multivitamin that contains vitamin c, b6, b12, magnesium, potassium, iron, selenium & zinc.
There are also “inhibitors” that will prevent these supplements from performing at their best. Stay away from excess sugar & caffeine. Many will find themselves with a lack of energy or sluggishness so they’ll reach for caffeinated beverages like sodas and energy drinks, but this is working against them.
Good luck on your taper and eventual freedom. Keep checking in with us.

What great info! I am so glad I ran across your site!! I had to take pain meds for 8 years for Piriformis Syndrome. Major urgery last Nov having the Piriformis Muscle released and have been pain free for the first time in 8 years!!! Dr. gave me Gabapentin to help nerve recovery after surgery and I took it for 3 months and had some left over. I am on Day 7 of getting off the pain meds and started the gabapentin yesterday after reading your stuff. What a life saver immediately!!! Thank you Thank you! Will order the DLPA now to help but this has already put me back to feeling much better. Great work!

Hi Brian,
That’s just amazing news to hear! And I’m happy you found my blog as well. Thanks so much for sharing the good results you had. I’m really glad the gabapentin helped you so much. And the DLPA sure does help a lot of people. It’s like “pure pleasure in a bottle” haha. Best of luck to you Brian.

You will have withdrawal symptoms from the Gabapentin…Do not stay on long…google it…So sorry to tell you, it is additive and Drs., do not tell you… After being on opiods for pain,, Gab., is last thing you need…
Signed, been there w/Gab…

My husband is going thru post withdrawal. Will try DLPA. He cannot sleep. I have given him Melatonin 40 mg. doesn’t phase him. He’s even taken Benadryl. That does nothing. Valerian nothing. Any ideas? He is so sleep deprived. I think he would start to feel a little better if he could sleep. Will the DLPA help with sleep. We get out every day ( even though he doesn’t feel up to it) but nothing makes this poor man sleep more than an hour at a time. Should he take anything else with the DLPA? Thank you.
Jim
Wow 40mg of melatonin? Give him 1 mg of it and I bet you get better results. People don’t know that 1 to 2 mg is all that’s needed and more than that can have a reverse effect.
John Hernandez

Kavinace – one brand is called “Neuroscience” – take 2 capsules before bed. It contains phenebut. You can add some melatonin but you probably won’t need it.

man I got a long road before I have a life again. Seems impossible.

It took me about 2-3 months before I felt really good after quitting because I didn’t know about DLPA. After I started taking it, however, I felt incredible in about 2 weeks! If felt awesome ever since. I took it for about 6 months, then stopped. A few times over the years I’ve needed to take it for 2-3 weeks. The stuff is incredible.
Hang in there Joshua. It may seem impossible right now, but once you get past this you will look back on this moment right now the day you decided you wanted more for your life. It’s so possible to feel good without drugs. DLPA!!!!!!!!

Hi Matt. New opiate addict coming off suboxone. Through the worst of it. I’m still feeling very uncomfortable. Pains and weakness in the legs, no energy, irritability, backache, etc. Bought Kyani. Just took it. I also bought L-Tyrosine, L-Theanine, and DLPH. Do I take everything together? I’m confused as to where to start. Please help!
Matt Finch
Hi Susan,
Congrats on getting off Suboxone and getting those supplements!!! Now to answer your question:
I can’t prescribe you what to take but I will put the dosages I would use and you can use this as informational/educational, and check with you health care provider to see if you should do it.
Kyani as recommended.
L-Tyrosine – 500-1500 mg morning and midmorning on empty stomach 45 minutes before meals. Start with 500 mg then work your way up to 1500 mg over 2 to 3 days if you don’t get jittery.
DLPA – 500-2,000 mg morning and midmorning on empty stomach 45 minutes before meals, with the L-Tyrosine. Start with 500 mg, then work your way up to 1500 to 2000 mg if it doesn’t give you jitters.
L-Theanine – 100 mg 3-4 times a day on empty stomach 45 minutes before meals.
Take these for at least 3 months and up to 6 months even. More if needed.
Make sure to take B-Complex with breakfast and lunch, vitamin C 1,000 mg with all three meals, and a strong Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc supplement with dinner. I would also take 50 mg of 5-HTP twice a day and 100 mg of it at night 45 minutes before bed. Eat healthy and exercise as well!!!
Best of luck to you Susan. 🙂

What dosage did you use in beginning and what dosage do you use when you need to take it again for 2-3 weeks? 1000-2000mg x3 times a day like in the article? Gets quite expensive, but i guess you don’t need to take it so long then? Tried lower dosages? Thanks for a good article.
Matt Finch
The first 6-8 weeks I took 1,000-2,000 mg 3 times per day. Now when I use it every so often I’ll just take 1,000-2,000 mg once first thing in the morning with a cup of yerba mate tea and I’m in an awesome mood all day long. Lower dosages help too, but I’m a dopamine freak sometimes! Quite euphoric too when I mix it with yerba mate.
Dawn
Could you please tell me how to use this while I am taking Oxycodone, it seems as though I have developed a dependency to the does I’m on and don’t want to increase it but actually lower it. And when should I take this i.e how many times a day and when? In the morning? Afternoon? Thank you!

Dawn,
I copied this from Matt’s article about The Finch Formula for stopping opiates:
Take 1,000-2,000 mg of DLPA on an empty stomach an hour before meals up to 3 times daily during opiate withdrawal. Most people benefit from taking DLPA for at least 1-3 months after coming off opiates. This will supply your body with an abundance of dopamine and endorphins, the two primary mood-enhancing neurotransmitters that become severely deficient during opiate withdrawal

Ok been taking oxycodone for about 3 months. Most of the time I took 5-6 15mg pills orally over the course of a day. So basically I took 1 pill every 4 hours or so. I have tapered down dropping 7.5mg in 3 day increments. I am currently at 7.5mg 3 times a day for a total of 22.5mg. I am also prescribed adderal 10mg once daily that I take about 10am each morning, as well as Lexapro 10mg that I take usually around 6pm.
My question is: What dose of DLPA should I be taking as I taper, as well as how many times a day should I be taking it? I’m serious about getting clean and I have a FT job, 2 kids and a business to run so taking time off isn’t an option. Thanks so much for what you do to help others as well as me. Bless you.
Mary Price - Certified OAS Recovery Specialist
Bill,
I will tell you what I did. I started out taking 1,000 mgs 2x/day; I found that starting with more made me jittery. Slowly I increased to where I could take 2,000 mgs 3x/day without being jittery. I also took a very good multivitamin which contained b vitamins, magnesium and zinc because these nutrients are needed for the dlpa to work efficiently. When I quit taking the opiate that I was prescribed I also began taking mucuna pruriens which contains L-dopa, another essential amino acid that helps with dopamine production. The reason to increase dopamine is that when we take an opiate it creates bursts of dopamine in our brains. The excess dopamine caused the brain to create additional dopamine receptors which the dopamine enters into. When we quit the opiates, there is not enough dopamine produced in our brains to fill the additional receptors so we feel the effects of low dopamine>fatigue, insomnia, lack of motivation, rls.
It is also important to remember to eat very healthy at this time. Just as important as your diet is to get plenty of exercise. I cannot express just how important diet and exercise are for helping to combat withdrawal symptoms. Eat food high in protein as it is a precursor for dopamine and endorphins. Also include plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale. Nuts and seeds are a very good source of protein, magnesium and folic acid (b12). Dark Chocolate (70-85% cocoa) contains an amazing amount of magnesium and has other benefits as well. Stay away from sugary, caffeinated drinks since they inhibit dopamine production. Drink green tea for the benefit of L-theanine that it supplies. (L-theanine is another amino acid which also contributes to dopamine but mainly it helps with anxiety by helping to calm you without sleepiness.)
Exercising, even when you dont feel like it, will help so much! You know the term “runner’s high”? It is called this because of the immediate release of endorphins that are produced. Exercise will help the dopamine release endorphins resulting in a great feeling.
I began meditating which really helped me taper my medicine and kept anxiety down. This was a very important part of fighting withdrawal, as well. Not to mention that it is also another way to help produce dopamine.
Good Luck! Keep us updated on your progress.

If you are older than 45-50 please get tested for PKU before starting this DLPA therapy. PKU is an inability to process phenylalanine. Too much phenylalanine in PKU sufferers and carriers can cause severe brain damage at worst, crippling headaches at best. I’m not a doctor, I have PKU and almost used DLPA. Many people don’t know they have it as it was not tested for until the 1960s. Also, phenylalanine is carried by protiens, vegans and vegetarians may never have symptoms. It’s not worth the risk.

My son has huge, severe anxiety! Should he use DPA instead of the DLPA, and when does the “L” come in handy?

Do you think it’s ok to open the capsules?? I’m day 3 of these. First day I swallowed whole and had the worst heartburn ever all day after! Suboxone free for 13 days.
