If someone held a gun to my head and told me I had to provide the number one resource needed to quit opioids for good, I would have to say it’s “Unshakeable Belief.”
The definition of belief is “the feeling of being certain that something exists or is true.”
Belief is nice.
Having belief in your ability to get off opioids is a wonderful resource.
Yet Unshakeable Belief is even better…
And here’s why…
Unshakeable Belief
Beliefs are too wishy-washy for me. Throughout my life, I can remember countless times where I believed something to be true and then changed my belief to something else. This could happen from learning new information, or it could come to be after I had a particularly life-changing experience.
For instance, for most of my life, I believed that I had something called a “Fixed Mindset.”
A Fixed Mindset is one that cannot be grown.
You simply have the mind you have and there’s no way to improve it.
Well into my early 30’s I truly believed that I was destined to work low-paying jobs forever because that was all that my limited and fixed mindset could achieve.
It wasn’t until the age of 32 when I became oriented to the world of personal development books and audios that I realized I was cultivating a new and improved “Growth Mindset.”
Upon this realization and transformation, I began to personally witness myself growing my mind exponentially. It was thrilling, to say the least.
I hadn’t even yet read Carol Dweck’s best-selling book Mindset where she coins these terms and differentiates the two.
Luckily for me, you don’t need to know these terms or ideas to have a Growth Mindset.
This story illustrates the reason I’m not emotionally invested in the term “belief.”
I believed something to be true, and then through experience, I believed the complete opposite.
Now let’s talk more about Unshakeable Belief.
Unshakeable Beliefs are beliefs that are indestructible.
Unshakeable Beliefs are beliefs that cannot be destroyed or altered.
These beliefs can withstand the test of time and experience.
Unshakeable Beliefs laugh at naysayers.
And they have a powerful Inner-Knowing that goes beyond reason, facts, and calculations.
A person with an Unshakeable Belief in their ability to recover from opioid dependence will absolutely succeed.
They might fail the first few attempts.
But their Unshakeable Belief that they will succeed will magnetically pull them to their destination… to achieve their goal.
Their Unshakeable Belief will guide them, comfort them, empower them, and lead them to victory.
How To Develop Unshakeable Belief
The best way to cultivate an Unshakeable Belief in your ability to overcome opioid dependence is to leverage the power of visualization.
Olympic athletes have been doing this for ages.
They use imagery and visualization to see themselves finishing the race in their ideal time and in 1st place ahead of all their competition.
In a famous study, there were two groups of participants and one group lifted weights regularly while the other group only visualized lifting weights.
The study showed a 30% muscle increase in the group who went to the gym. And it showed a 13.5% muscle increase in the group of participants who only did the workouts in their minds.
To really help you realize just how powerful visualization can be at helping you develop Unshakeable Belief in your ability to recover from opioid dependence, I’ll quote an article from psychologytoday.com.
“Mental imagery impacts many cognitive processes in the brain: motor control, attention, perception, planning, and memory. So the brain is getting trained for actual performance during visualization.
It’s been found that mental practices can enhance motivation, increase confidence and self-efficacy, improve motor performance, prime your brain for success, and increase states of flow – all relevant to achieving your best life!”
Exercise
For at least 10 minutes a day, close your eyes and see yourself getting off opioids. Visualize yourself overcoming addiction. Feel the victory and gratitude… the triumph. It’s not only important to see the images, but even more important to feel the feelings.
Once you’ve done this for 1-2 weeks straight — if you’ve done it right — you’ll have Unshakeable Belief.
And this perpetual, everlasting, indestructible belief will guide you to your new life…
A life of “Freedom from Addiction.”
