Hello!!! It’s been quite awhile since I wrote my first Top Extracts Review article. Over time, the owner of Top Extracts – Jim – has added more and more extraordinary additions to the website.
Thus, I decided it was time to sample some of the new products and write about my experiences, just like I did in the first Top Extracts Review.
This article is not going to be as long as the first one.
I won’t be reviewing as many products, and since I already provided detailed info on kratom and kava, I won’t be going deep into the pharmacological actions of those herbs, even though I’m reviewing a new kratom product and a new kava product.
If you haven’t read Part I of my Top Extracts Review, click here now to read that article first. If you’ve already read Part I, then read on to learn about my amazing experiences sampling some new additions to the Top Extracts product line (Kratom Resin, Kava Extract 60% CO2, Akuamma Seed Capsules, South African Kanna Powder).
1. Kratom Resin
Most kratom products you’ll find are powders, which are truly awesome. However, some people don’t like consuming several grams of powder, and they prefer kratom extracts.
A Kratom extract is defined as any product that has a higher alkaloid content of typical kratom leaves by method of extracting the active chemicals from the plant matter. Kratom extracts are typically created by boiling the kratom leaf to remove the alkaloids. Then the remaining material is either formed into kratom resin, ground into a kratom extract powder, or made into a liquid kratom tincture. Kratom resin looks a lot like a brick of black tar heroin and also similar to a brick of opium.
Kratom resins are all identified as being 8x, 10x, 15x, or as some other denomination times stronger than unprocessed Kratom leaves. The Top Extracts Kratom Resin I sampled was 10x.
The Buzz
The best way to consume kratom resin is to make tea, so that’s exactly what I did. First, I got a sharp knife and cut off a piece of the resin that weighed 2 grams (I used a digital scale). Next, I placed the kratom resin in eight ounces of boiling water, and after a couple of minutes, the resin dissolved into liquid.
A tossed an ice cube in the tea to cool it down, and I sipped on it for about ten minutes, until it was all gone. After just 10 minutes I FELT AMAZING!!!
I felt so happy, energized and relaxed at the same time (go kratom!), and I had a blast answering blog comments and emails while I was feeling the effects of the Top Extracts Kratom Resin.
Here are the effects I felt:
- Pain relief
- Euphoria
- Muscle relaxation
- Mental relaxation
- Mood enhancement
- Feelings of total bliss
How To Use Kratom Resin 10x For Opiate Withdrawal
There are many factors determining how much kratom resin to take for opiate withdrawal. However, one should always start with a small dose, then work their way up to the amount that works perfect.
Based on the effects that 2 grams of Kratom Resin 10x gave me, I believe that anywhere from 1-3 grams, 3 times a day could work very well. Everyone is different, and so you may need to take more depending on your level of opioid dependence.
You’re going to enjoy the taste of kratom resin tea, and you’ll love the ease of use. Swallowing a bunch of capsules or having to mix a lot of powder into a beverage is not as convenient as drinking a cup of kratom resin tea. The effects of the tea come on very fast, and I actually wish I was sipping some right now.
Note: You can also cut off small pieces of kratom resin and swallow them with a beverage, like you’re taking a vitamin supplement. However, this method of consumption is slow-acting. It takes much longer for the effects to come on.
2. Kava Extract 60% C02
If you’ve read my first Top Extracts Review article, then you know how much I LOVE kava kava. The first type that I tried from Top Extracts was a kava powder extract with 70% kavalactones. It is truly amazing stuff.
Some time after I sampled it, the main herb shop in my town started carrying a kava C02 extract product. It came packaged in a tiny glass jar, and the kava C02 extract was a dark-colored paste, where I could dip a plastic butter knife in it and dab some kava goodness under my tongue to dissolve.
The Buzz
It was PURE INSTANT BLISS. Shortly after that, I emailed Jim, the owner of Top Extracts, to see if he was ever planning on carrying kava extract in this paste form. He told me that he would work on it, and he sure did.
Top Extracts now has the most extraordinary Kava Kava 60% Supercritical C02 Extract. The Solomon Kava Kava is put through a Supercritical C02 extractor to wash away all impurities.
As a result, what is left behind is the nectar-like concentrates of the following active compounds:
- Dihydromethysticin
- Kavain
- Ddihydrokavain
- Yangonin
- Desmethoxyyangonin
When I tried this wonderful kava C02 extract, I took a plastic butter knife and dabbed a piece the size of my finger nail, placed it under my tongue, and let it dissolve. I went straight to HEAVEN!!!
I actually had some neck tension and stress that day, but all of that melted away within seconds of the kava C02 extract dissolving. All of those concentrated psychoactive compounds began working in my body in almost no time.
Here are the effects I felt:
- Muscle relaxation
- Euphoria
- Relief of anxiety
- Mental calmness
How To Use Kava 60% C02 Extract For Opiate Withdrawal
If I were going through opiate withdrawal, I would use 1-2 fingernails or more of Top Extracts Kava 60% CO2 Extract, 3-4 times a day. This can also be used for Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome to help brighten your mood, induce relaxation, and promote sleep.
3. Akuamma Seed Capsules
Akuamma seeds in the treatment of opiate withdrawal and pain relief has recently started to become popular in the United States. Akuamma seeds, which come from a tree known as Picralima Nitida, is an herbal medicine commonly used throughout West Africa, particularly in Ghana, as well as in the Ivory Coast and Nigeria.
Traditionally, the seeds were used to treat malaria. They are said to provide instant relief from symptoms, such as fever and body pain. In different hospitals of Ghana, the seeds are sold under the brand name Picap, and it’s used as a painkiller.
Akuamma seeds contain several active alkaloids which bind to various opioid receptors, making them useful in the treatment of opiate withdrawal, PAWS, and pain relief.
The main akuamma seed alkaloids are:
- Akuammidine – Binds to kappa opioid receptors. Skeletal muscle relaxant, hypotensive action, and local analgesic action.
- Akuammine – Antagonist at mu opioid receptor. It is a sympathetic system agonist. It inhibits intestinal motility and shows a fall in blood pressure. However, at higher doses, it shows hypertension. Effects resemble cocaine.
- Akuammicine – Like akuammidine, it binds to kappa opioid receptor sites.
- Akuammigine – Adrenaline antagonist. Antiadrenergic activity of the heart, vessels, and regulatory center of the circulatory system.
- Pericine – This alkaloid binds to the mu opioid receptors, which are the main ones responsible for feelings of euphoria and relaxation of the nervous system.
Akuamma seeds resemble kratom in a way because its alkaloid akuammine is related to mitragynine and yohimbine. Many people choose to use akuamma seeds as a natural alternative to opiates for pain relief because it doesn’t cause withdrawal symptoms, has less side effects, and a very low potential for addiction.
The Buzz
Upon receiving my Top Extracts Akuamma Seed Capsules, I took three of them with a glass of water. Since the capsules are about 750 mg each, my dose was a little over two grams. After 15 minutes, I started to feel the effects, and within an hour, the effects peaked.
The akuamma seed alkaloids were doing their work in my body, and the feelings I experienced were very natural and pleasant. My best description would be to liken it to taking 800 mg of ibuprofen with a muscle relaxer.
Here are the effects I felt:
- Pain relief
- Anti-inflammatory
- Muscle relaxation
- Mental relaxation
How To Use Akuamma Seed Capsules For Opiate Withdrawal
To use akuamma seed capsules for opiate withdrawal, I would try using 1.5 to 3 grams per dose, a few times a day as needed. Since akuamma seeds bind to opioid receptors, they have the ability to lessen the severity of opiate withdrawal symptoms.
4. South African Kanna Powder
I had never even heard of kanna powder before visiting the Top Extracts website…but I’m sure glad I know about it now. Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) is a succulent plant commonly found in South Africa.
Kanna has been used by South African pastoralists and hunter-gatherers as a mood-altering substance since prehistoric times. Kanna is a natural serotonin reuptake inhibitor, which means that it increases serotonin levels in the body.
Serotonin is an inhibitory neurotransmitter than induces emotional relaxation.
Here are the main effects produced by kanna:
- Elevates mood
- Decreases anxiety, stress, and tension
The Buzz
The Top Extracts South African Kanna Powder is very fresh and of granular size. It contains high alkaloid concentrations of mesmbrine, mesembrenone, and tortuosamine. When I first tried the kanna powder, I took a teaspoon in a glass of water, and I didn’t feel anything from it. Then I remembered that sometimes serotonin reuptake inhibitors take a week or longer of daily use before you start to feel the effects.
Many years ago, I was taking Paxil, a prescription serotonin reuptake inhibitor. It took at least a week to notice some effects, and two weeks before I could really feel the effects. When it peaked, I felt great, but those pleasant effects wore off after a few months, and the side effects became unbearable, so I stopped taking it.
Okay back to my kanna experience…
I read online that the best way to feel the kanna effects powerfully and quickly is to smoke it. So that’s what I did. I went to a smoke shop, bought a $10 glass pipe, some screens, and a lighter, then went home to smoke some kanna powder.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED it!!!!!!!!!!!!! I felt so amazing. Not high, but just a great mood-uplifting and relaxing feeling. The serotonin increase in my brain was very noticeable.
I became extremely empathetic and happy, and blissful…and it’s no wonder because kanna powder is an empathogen.
Empathogens, also known as entactogens, are a class of psychoactive drugs that produce experiences of:
- Emotional communion
- Oneness
- Relatedness
- Emotional openness (empathy or sympathy)
How To Use Kanna Powder For Opiate Withdrawal
If you want to beat depression during opiate withdrawal and post-acute withdrawal, do yourself a favor and purchase a pipe, some screens, a lighter, and smoke some kanna powder.
If cannabis is legal where you live, you can also sprinkle kanna powder on your cannabis, as this has a synergistic and pleasant effect, and using cannabis for opiate withdrawal has been shown in studies to be very effective.
How much to smoke?
Start off by taking one little hit. If you don’t get any adverse reactions, you can smoke more. Smoke kanna powder throughout the day and evening to beat the depression and anxiety induced by opiate withdrawal.

Where can I get Valerian root
Dr J
Hello Matt & friends,
I have, like you, been through a rough journey and am hopefully nearing a new beginning. I have advanced prostate cancer. I was diagnosed at age 41, had the radical prostatectomy, which can be a rough surgery; the day after surgery, as I told my surgeon how much pain I was in, he said “Well, it’s like you’ve been shot 5 times in the abdomen.” Note: he never mentioned this pre-op. Anyway, that started my long love affair with pain medications. Started with hydros, then tramadol (which, due to the serotonin effects, made me think it was a wonder drug). My doc said tramadol was not a narcotic (ehem, wrong), so one day I decided to stop. The withdrawal was awful. I decided to swear off narcotics. Then, as by bulging, herniated discs got worse and started nerve pinching, my PCP promised me that she’d relieve my pain and never let me go through withdrawal. Second note: Never believe any doctor who is administering narcotic pain meds to you! Never! So, she put me on oxys. Like Matt, my experience with these medicines was like love at first pill. I felt energetic, social, pain relief, and even intellectual benefits (I’m a professor of political philosophy, and published some of my best work during what I’d call parts 1 & 2 of my yellow brick road). Eventually, I moved to a pain management doctor, who swore she’d never let me experience anything more than mild withdraw symptoms if/when we tapered. Well, long story short: after about 2 and a half years, this “doctor” had prescribed me 720 mg of oxycodone DAILY! It was a combo of 3 80 mg OxyContin, plus 16 30mg oxycodone daily = 720mg a day. One piece of info about me: I’m a very careful person. So, everytime she’d increase dosage, I’d question it. She said that my tolerance causes my body to need more narcotics to work effectively. Anyway, as I sat waiting for my monthly appt about 15 months ago, 3 people entered the room. Doctor, nurse, and office manager. They said the doctor had been overprescribing me. The doc said she liked me so much, that each time I called the office, instead of calling me back, she’d just increase my dose. They all apologized, saying I was the ideal patient and had not done anything wrong, blah blah blah. Well, I was pretty upset. So, we stabilized at 660 oxy daily for about 9 months, then started a very slow taper. Then, 3 months ago, the doctor called me. She said she was worried that I might sue her, and therefore she was dropping me as a patient and sending me predated prescriptions for a rapid taper, from about 600 mg to 0. Needless to say to you all, this has been the roughest 3 months of my life. She refused to supervise the taper. So, as I was having constant diarrhea and had lost 25 pounds in one week, she wouldn’t even respond to my calls for diarrhea medicine. My oncologist had to prescribe it. Over these 3 months, I’ve probably been to the ER about 10 times; you know, those nights when your skin is crawling and you cannot stay still and all you want is just a moment of sleep and a break from your splitting headache. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve had a headache for three straight months. Finally, I was able to get into another doctor. When I showed him the taper schedule Ohio State Palliative Care had sent me, he shook his head for about 5 minutes, saying over and over “they have done everything wrong–this taper is way too fast!” That morning, I had taken my last OxyContin 20mg. I was supposed to teach my last class of the semester that evening and would’ve been in fullblown W/D, if this doc had not broken his policy that he never prescribes for a first visit. He saved/stabilized me by that afternoon. I apologize for this long story, but I hope this information may be useful to others. Now, a couple issues I hope Matt can help me with. First, the new doctor put me on 5mg daily of methadone (I take 2.5 morning, 2.5 evening). Before then, I swore I’d never take methadone. But, he made the following promises: the methadone would pull me out of W/D; that this was a very low dose of methadone, and he’d never raise it above 5mg daily; finally, he would only keep me on it for a short time (several weeks), and that when he took me off, I’d have no problems. Additionally, he prescribed 15 mg of oxycodone 3 X a day (total 45 mg daily). Up to that point, anything under 60 mg oxy, and I’d be into intense W/D. The plan going forward is a very slow taper. So, next month, I’ll go from 45 oxy to 40 oxy daily. Questions. First, does this overall plan sound good? I will say that it has pulled me out of W/D, but there are days when the 45 oxy just isn’t enough for my pain. Second, what do you think of his methadone promises? Finally, as I taper the oxy and/or have the occasional really bad pain day, can I supplement the oxy with Kratom? I don’t want to run out of my oxy early. So, if I took 30 mg oxy, with a dose of Kratom on bad days, would the Kratom, oxy, methadone combo be a good option for alleviating my pain and keeping me out of W/D, or is there any danger or downside to this occasional strategy? Note 3: I’ve come down from 600+ oxy to 45 mg in under 3 months. I am determined to either get down to a normal beginning dose of oxy (15mg daily), resetting my tolerance and using this oxy to manage my pain and do so carefully, or get off these meds altogether. So, I’m still tapering for at least several more months. I’ve read your advice for using Kratom when I’m off the narcotics and need W/D relief, but I’m wondering what you think about using Kratom **occasionally** on bad days, like today, as a supplement to the oxy and methadone so I don’t increase oxy from time to time and run out before my next script. I know this is a lot, but I’ve really struggled to get where I am and I have substantial MRI verified injuries that are very painful. Finally, I just learned (March 14) that my cancer has come back a third time and I’m now terminal. I don’t want to have poor quality of life during what are likely my last 2-4 years; I have a 5-year old daughter that I want to spend every moment I can with, without pain preventing me from playing with her. So, the methadone issue, and the Kratom as supplement issues (I’ve read that the Kratom methadone oxy combo might have all three sort of pushing each other away from my receptors, and make things worse for me?)–if you could help me, I’d be forever grateful. Thank you for reading this book length post! -Dr J.

Try 400 mg of Agmatine sulfate twice a day to keep tolerance in check.
God bless!
Joe
I don’t know why you are so reluctant to take methadone, it’s excellent medicine and has a number of benefits over opiate drugs like oxycodone, particularly when it comes to slow tapers. You take it once/day, you’ll never have someone force you higher or lower, you’ll never run out of refills and since it’s a liquid, you can taper down 1mg or even 0.5mg at a time- whatever rate you find comfortable. Also, there is no high from it. An oxy dose of 45mg is about the equivalent of 15-20mg methadone, that’s not that much. The goal is stability. You’ve been through the ringer, take some time to get stable, then stay stable for a while

I tried smoking the kanna it bunged my throat. I ordered everything you mention onthis but the kaana burned my throat. Am i doing something wrong???
Matt Finch
You could try adding some soothing herbs to the mix. Like some mullein leaf and/or speariment or peppermint leaf. Having it in a blend with herbs that are soothing to the throat could help. I didn’t have that issue, which can also come from using a small and cheap metal or wooden pipe. Sometimes a glass or water pipe can be more soothing.

I have stage 3 lung cancer and am being treated with opdivo. Also type two diabetes and I take humalog and lantus. I take about 60 to 80 mg of oxycodone daily and now that my pain has. Subsided I would like to quit. Can I safely take these supplements?

Hi Matt I have read your review of all of these wonderful sounding remedies or at least helpful for coming off opiates. I am on methadone and being weaned off. I am looking for something to help with the withdrawal. The problem I am facing besides the obvious is I live in Wisconsin. I know that kratom is banned and I am guessing all of these other herbs you mention are too. Do you know if any of these are permitted in Wisconsin? Thanks in advance.
