If you’re thinking about chewing fentanyl patch gel, then you would seriously benefit from reading about my experience doing this. In this article, I’m going to share what happened the day I decided to do some recreational fentanyl patch chewing.
Are you wondering whether or not you can chew a fentanyl patch?
If so, you’re in for a treat.
First, I’ll cover a brief overview on fentanyl patches. Then I’ll explain the process of chewing fentanyl patches, how my body and mind felt after I chewed a fentanyl patch, and finally, why I don’t recommend it.
After that, you’ll be able to make an educated decision on whether or not to do some fentanyl patch chewing.
Fentanyl Patch Overview
Fentanyl is in a class of medications called opiate analgesics. Fentanyl works by changing the way the brain and nervous system respond to pain. Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine.
Fentanyl patches are used to relieve severe pain in people who are expected to need pain medication around the clock for a long time and who cannot be treated with other medications.
Transdermal fentanyl comes as a patch to apply to the skin. The fentanyl patch is usually applied to the skin once every 72 hours.
Can You Chew Fentanyl Patches?
Rather than have to wait 72 hours for the entire dosage of fentanyl in a fentanyl patch to hit you, many people have wondered if you can just chew the fentanyl patch to get instant release.
So, can you chew fentanyl patches?
The answer is yes, but it’s not recommended.
When you chew a fentanyl patch, the gel from the patch, which is supposed to slowly absorb into your bloodstream over three days time, gets instantly released into your bloodstream.
This can lead to you getting high, or if you’re unlucky, it can lead to fentanyl overdose and even death. On Drugs.com, someone was asking if you can chew fentanyl patches.
Here are a few of the responses they received:
“One of my patients was addicted to the fentanyl patch and after being released from our hospital, someone turned him on to sucking the fentanyl out of the patch. His girlfriend told us that he died just 2 days after being released from us of a fentanyl overdose.”
“Three days ago I received a phone call that my 37 year old daughter was being taken to the hospital … unconscience. Today we received final confirmation there was still NO BRAIN activity. She Chewed half a 100 mcg Fentynal patch and within minutes she was not breathing. DO IT AND DIE! She leaves behind a beautiful 18 year old daughter and handsome 15 year old son a sad and broken hearted sister and mother.”
“Oh my God! Please DO NOT ever chew these! Back when I was a drug seeking pleasurer, I OD’d, 2x in a week.. Was very close to dying.”
My Experience Chewing Fentanyl Patch Gel
Back when I was an opiate addict, one of my drug dealers texted me that he had some fentanyl patches. He told me that you can use scissors to cut the fentanyl patch into 4 pieces equal in size.
Then, you simply pull off the adhesive to one of the quarter fentanyl strips, and place it over your top or bottom set of front teeth so the fentanyl gel is touching your gums.
Since I needed opiates everyday to prevent going into withdrawal, I decided to try out a fentanyl patch.
I bought a fentanyl patch from my drug dealer.
I did as he instructed, and got really high.
Chewing on the quarter strip of fentanyl patch led to pleasant and strong opiate effects hitting me within 5-10 minutes, and peaking in about 20 minutes or less.
I probably would’ve overdosed had I tried chewing the entire fentanyl patch, which was 75 mcg/hr.
Chewing Fentanyl Patch Consequences
Luckily I didn’t overdose while chewing the fentanyl patch in quarters over the course of the next two days. I don’t recommend chewing fentanyl patch gel, because it’s very powerful, very addicting. and extremely dangerous.
Chewing just a quarter of a 75 mcg/hr fentanyl patch got me much higher than any other time using opiates, including when I smoked heroin.
Though I don’t want you to chew fentanyl patch gel, my blog does in fact teach people about Harm Reduction methods.
Thus, if you won’t take my advice and still decide to do some fentanyl patch chewing, please be careful, and remember that you can use scissors to cut the fentanyl patches into much smaller pieces.
Take care of yourself, and I wish you the best.

Pregabalin helps and is easier to get off of, stay away from Xanax, only use week benzo’s for sleep. Weed helps if you like cannabis ?

Dear Matt,
I don’t know whether to praise you or scold you for publishing this article about chewing those darn dermal patches! I THINK your point was that ‘moderation’ is the way to go (Moderation in illegal drug abuse? Lol) but I fear your point may be lost on many….particularly abusers. The makers of Fentanyl Patches know what they are talking about when they warn: “FOR TRANSDERMAL USE ONLY”!
I am a senior woman who has suffered from chronic pain most of my life. It started when I had silicone breast implants that leaked into my body in the early 1980’s. The pain was in my muscles, joints, and even my skin. It hurt to be touched. As the years passed, I developed severe arthritis in every major joint. By the 1990’s my long-time, excellent, family doctor had put me on every major anti-inflammatory and non-opioid pain med, and I had tried every ‘Natural’ or holistic remedy there was out there including chiropractic, acupuncture w/ electric current, massage (effective but EXPENSIVE) yoga, jacuzzi, hot-yoga, etc. Some things provided temporary relief… about 6 hrs. of temporary relief, but the prescription anti-inflammatories tore up my guts, and landed me in the hospital for IBS – and a bowel removal in 2009.
Over the years, the PAIN & EXHAUSTION was relentless and debilitating. Eventually, by around 2005-06 or so, my Doctor put me on a 50mcg. Fentanyl patch, replaced every 3 days. It helped tremendously; stopping both the pain AND fatigue, BUT the side effect of itching was awful, so with caring and thought, we tried HALF of a 75mcg. Patch. These patches were NOT raised, there was no liquid or gel in them; so I could safely cut the patch in half for a dose of 37.5 mcg. every 3 to 3.5 days. Along with Advil or Diclofinac 75mg., for occasional break/through joint pain. My caring doctor and I had the pain truly managed for the first time in my life! For once, modern medicine, and an honest, trustworthy, professional relationship with my doctor had actually HELPED me conquer debilitating pain.
In the meantime, I had no IDEA that there had developed a world-wide prescription and under-world Fentanyl and opioid pain-medicine epidemic. Sure, I heard about Fentanyl drug-busts on the news. But those seemed to be involved with ‘Cartels’ and “Those” kind of people. I truly had NO clue that prescription pain medications were becoming the New Public Enemy #1 of my federal government, and that young people were abusing and dying from taking stolen prescription meds. I was living my life, enjoying my grandchildren, enjoying a trusted and cooperative relationship with my Doctor, I didn’t abuse ANY drug or alcohol, ever in my life. I was active. I simply needed pain medication in my later adult years to manage my chronic, debilitating pain. Little did I know that I would soon be lumped into a large, crassly generalized population of prescription abusers worldwide.
** There is more to this story, but I’ve gone on over-long. Just reply back to me if you want to hear the rest **
Best Wishes for your continued sobriety.

I was snorting oxy, using a fentanyl patch, putting liquid morphine into a shot of vodka and drinking vodka all at the same time. But then I quit all of them cold turkey. And trust me I’ve never been so miserable in my entire life! I thought I was going to die. I could hardly walk or if kneeled down it took me a while to get up. I shook so bad I couldn’t text and I had to use two hands to drink anything. I barely ate anything because I couldn’t even fix a meal or have an appetite. This all lasted for about a month and a half. I’m truly blessed to be alive!! My dad had just died and I was suddenly living alone and the rest of my family were out of town during the whole time. So I went through it alone. So I really plea to anyone who reads this to be safe and not do like I did. I know that you’ll either die or go through the same withdrawals that I did.
Sarey
Im so sorry for the loss of your dad. but I am amazed you had the strength with everything you did to just quit like that!! I hope you have the support to stay clean!!

I was researching about Fentanyl as I had taken it for extreme pain from 2003 to 2006. I appreciate the assistance I can see that you are trying to give others to help combat addiction. I have been fortunate as to not have that issue, but I’ve seen too many go into the abyss with addiction.
I have some concerns with the way it was put forward with regard to whether Fentanyl can be used by chewing. It isn’t just “not recommended.” It isn’t supposed to be done. It’s a transdermal patch. Even that way, it has led to overdose.
Furthermore, some people might use this information in a harmful way. To be fair, you might not have thought of this. I’ve struggled with not wanting to be on the earth for a long while. I often wondered about how this might work. Now, I know. In some ways, it put fear into me. But in other ways, it hasn’t. I think it should say in this writing that it is specifically labeled for transdermal use only! I guess that addicts takes risks everyday. I’ve never used street heroin. But IV morphine isn’t a lot different that actual pharma Heroin. In pure form, used at the proper dose, it’s much less dangerous than when Fentanyl gets used or cut into it. My teacher even said that a “good dealer” is often taken off of the street, one that has a safer supply of illegal heroin, and it has devastating effects when shortcuts like Fentanyl enter the picture.
I don’t like opiates, but there have been people who used liquid forms for life with no consequences. They had the ability to get laudanum and safer forms.
I’m not trying to be critical, but this blog post is concerning. As for writing though, you seem like a very good writer to me. I write also.

I was taken from 100mucg down to 50 of the fentanyl patch…The DEA/CDC now evidentially know me personally and can mandate my dosages…Been on 100 for over a decade.. But the withdrawal I have been through plus the mindfuck of the last 90 days is so painful mentally, and I add that to the multiple physical conditions that each cause pain…ALL I WANT IS TO BE WITH ALL THE SOULS OF THE DOGS THAT HAVE BEEN IN MY LIFE..They can never let you down, like pain care doctors that do not fight the system… AM I THE ONLY ONE??? CHECK THIS OUT: https://www.sagaciousnewsnetwork.com/pain-related-suicides-associated-with-forced-opioid-pain-medication-reductions/ I am but another number…. My doc was so good but I guess if you hear ouch hour after hour and day after day you become immune to the noise..No compassion or empathy lately….

Two weeks ago today I quit fent cold turkey. I was chewing 75mg ptchs, cut into 5-6 strips.
Like I said, I quit cold turkey. And let me tell you, I have never in my life been as sick as I was the first 5 days.
I’m not going to get into the details, any opiate addict can already guess what I went through. But fentanyl withdrawal is nothing like Norco or Percocet withdrawal. Actually, anybody that’s been through Norco withdrawal? Times it by about a hundred. That’s what fentanyl withdrawal is like. I heard it’s worse than heroin withdrawals, but I’ve never done heroin so I don’t know. It was sheer stubbornness on my part that got me through the w/d. The point of my story? Please, don’t chew or misuse Fentanyl. The fact that I was doing this for six straight months, and I’m still alive to tell the tale?…..Well, I guess God must have some kind of a plan for me is all I can say…… God bless you all and take care.
Brandi
Wow. Thanks for sharing your story. Eye opening. I had no idea people tried to chew these or that was even an idea in someones brain. That is crazy, but drugs can make the mind and body do mysterious things. How brave it is for people to come froward and share their experience for other to learn. Thank God you are alive and still here to help others. 🙂

Only way I’ve been able to do it is to get enough benzos, multi-vites, and ensure/Gatorade to last you as long as it takes & (no offense) just suck it up. Stay hydrated, try to get up and move as much as possible, TRY to eat, and take enough xanax to put you in a fog and at least give you some euphoria/anxiety relief, not to mention some possible sleep. Highly recommend quianine for restless legs at night (or day). Two tblsp apple cider vinegar will also help and is more easily available. Good luck!
Ralph Ralpherson
Benzos don’t provide euphoria, they aren’t a narcotic.
Anonymous
They provide a calmness though, especially when you’re going through terrible anxiety from withdrawal.
Anonymous
Bruh xanax is way way way worse to come off of than fentynal. Extremely bad advice. Go to a detox center!
Johnny Lee
Also consider Pregabalin, it’s much less addictive than benzo’s and much easier for titration to a manageable level. So to wrap up, Strong benzo’s the first few really bad days, then cut back while introducing 300mg of pregabalin as a start, eat and stay hydrated as people recommend, if your cold, move about, exercise, if your hot cool down and listen to music that you love, slowly lower every med, it will take months, but trust me I’ve done it, it works. I have ended up on a 50mg a day pregabalin prescription for the anxiety, because finally that’s all that’s left to battle, Anxiety. Sleep comes back normal after 3 months or more, stay strong. And quit alcohol and benzo’s they drag you back in. Weed if you like it, is never a problem and does help some people. Take care of yourself and others, you will feel better.
Matt Finch
I’m sorry you’re so confused Cindy. I recommend doing what others do and use a method that resonates with you. By having lots of options, you can customize your detox to fit your individual needs. Although I do understand that having too much information can be confusing.
I don’t know what to tell you. Perhaps you should unsubscribe from the email list if it’s confusing you and not giving you any help. Additionally, there are other websites on addiction recovery, and perhaps there is one or more that will not have so many ways to get off opiates, and thus be less confusing.
And as for never getting a reply before in a comment, I make no guarantees that I will answer 100% of everyone’s comments. I have 3 blogs, 3 email lists, and 4 online courses to answer comments and questions for.
I don’t base which comments I answer and which ones I don’t based on “worthiness.” It’s simply about how busy I am at that point in time.
It sounds like you are in a lot of pain and really need direction with how to get off opiates. What is your situation? What opiates are you on and for how long?
Let me know and I can provide you with some of my best recommendations based on your situation. I’m really sorry you’re having a bad experience with the email list and with all the info, and I’d love to help narrow your options down so it’s not so confusing.
Take care.
Oh and P.S. – I checked my database for unanswered comments from your email. It’s showing that you left one comment on September 9th on my article on resolve, and I actually answered your comment the same exact day. I’ll reprint your comment and my response to maybe jog your memory?
Cindy: “My problem with you is almost EVERY Email I get from you is a DIFFERENT way to get off opiates. SMH So I just don’t get it and have stopped even reading your emails anymore. Makes me sad cause at first it gave me hope but then your methodS shattered that hope. Thanks”
Me: “Hi Cindy, I’m sorry that I’ve provided too many ways to quit opiates. And I’m sorry your hope has been shattered. That must be awful. I hope that you find your way. If there is anything I can do to assist you, please use the contact page to send me an email.”
Then a man named Jeff even replied to your comment as well: “Cindy, please don’t get discouraged and give up. Matt provides information to help many different people who have different situations with different bodies. What works for one may not work for another and vice versa. I understand it can be overwhelming at first with the amount of info but many people have to try different ways before reaching success. Btw, Matt’s article here is 100% true, it can be worded different ways but the first ingredient for anyone to be successful getting off opiates is Resolve or a strong determination to do it. No one can make you do it and you won’t be successful it you only partially want to quit. I always worded it “you have to get sick of it to get away from it”. No matter how you say it, it’s the truth. I hope you find what you need. Please don’t give up.”

Tim Hanson
Hello Matt!
It is me again, Tim. Yes, I have used fentanyl patch of 50mg. I mentioned before that I was addiction to any opiate as recreational pleasure. I have chewed gel patch but not when it is opened. No way because I knew I would be dead as I have had few scares because you could feel your heart beat harder. After 3 days, I chew them little by little as a whole because if you cut open and eat the gel, you will be on deathbed. It helps you to get more high but you suffer longer withdrawal eventually if you don’t stop. Also, BEWARE don’t ever take sub the next day because fentanyl is still in your system longer than pills. I had HORRIBLE precipitated WD that I almost went nuts. I ran all over and tried to go to ER but they told me I needed to go to hospital. My body became VERY, VERY cold. I drove around as if I wanted to kill myself but I couldn’t because of my two kids. I was hoping it would go away but it didn’t for about an hour. I took another sub it didn’t help much but it went away slowly as I took hot bath a lot as I was damn cold. I hit rock bottom and didn’t have no energy for 3 days. I couldn’t eat or drink anything. Gradually I build myself back up again. That was my worst experience ever. I have had few precipitated WD because I didn’t learn. Right now, I am doing ok. I have 2 strips of 2mg Sub left. I will get my CalmSupport on Thursday or Friday. I will and hope it will help me mentally from being restless. So beware of Fentanyl use and Suboxone…they don’t go together very soon after use.
Matt Finch
Hey Tim,
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences as I know many people that read this will benefit from the information. That is a very gnarly experience and I’m sorry you went through it. Congrats on deciding to get CalmSupport that stuff is awesome. Best of luck to you!
